I was in this hotel at the beginning of April 2024. The hotel smells terrible of food. The number of people in the hotel during the day at lunch is off the charts; they receive groups of people with a bunch of children arriving on buses. The rooms open onto a common courtyard, where everyone passing by looks into your room - it's terrible! Something is constantly happening on the lawn outside the window: people are running around with animals and yelling, smoking weed. There were huge spiders in my room. Dirty carpet.

What did I like? Everything. What an absolute gem of a property. I was hesitant to write this review, as I selfishly don't want more people to find out about Villa Trompenberg. But yea, the place is simply phenomenal. Really cool old house converted into a boutique hotel. Everything you could want from an accommodation and then some. Large, elegant, spotlessly clean, comfortable room. Bikes available for hire. Fully stocked 24 hour food and drink offerings in the reception / kitchen. Easy everything; check in, bike hire, coffee on demand, honesty bar, check out. The daughter in the family that owns the property was there in the morning making eggs to order for the guests, and chatting with her a bit was a total bonus highlight. Honestly one of the most enjoyable hotel stays I've ever had.

Laren is one of the most beautiful and cosy old villages of the area "Het Gooi" in Holland. There are many great restaurants and cafes, all in the center of town and the houses, parks and forests around it so attractive. In summer right in the center, there is the Poffertjes kraam, typically Dutch, which attracts many visitors from around the area. The houses around there are magnificent and the pace is slow, everyone enjoying the atmosphere.
In the neighbourhood also check out the other villages and visit Huizen, with its colourful old wooden houses along the water and great restaurants too. Enjoy!

Try Beo snack cafe any time of day, 10am-3am weekends for gorgeous meals:the steak tartaar special, cheesesteak and loempia are each very special. Nick Vollebreght Jazz Cafe is also a very special treat for affordable gastronomy. Walks in the area are magic as well, don't miss the village of Narden for a fairy tale location to feed your imagination.
