Share our home farm stay, hotel in Huntly

Located in Ruawaro in the Waikato region, Share our home farm stay features a garden. This farm stay provides free private parking, a shared kitchen and free WiFi.

Thank you to the hosts and pets (lily, the dog and two cats) who were accommodating, friendly and warm hearted. The farm is a wonderful place to get away. Take food supplies as it is 30 minutes from the nearest town. I very much enjoyed the isolation and solitude. For those expecting a hotel and service, do not come here. It is a home, rustic, clean and tidy, and the price is very reasonable. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Thank you for having me.

The town is next to the Waikato river so you can walk along it. They have walking trails also. You can cross the river upstream and visit the huntly power station. There's a lake across the railroad tracks 5 minutes from the town centre where you can picnic or go for a swim.

We walked around Lake Hakanoa. Really interesting walk.

We walked around Lake Hakanoa. Really interesting walk. Good picnic spots. Shame some areas had litter. Had a fish meal at Huntly Fish and Chip Shop. Highly recommend. Lovely people. Lovely service. Food was lovely and plentiful. We ate in. We went to Lake Puketrini. Would be good place for a walk and picnic. Unfortunately the Coal museum was closed. There are items referring to the coal mining in the town. They are interesting. some good shops in Huntly. Parking can be at a premium.

Local tavern that is part of hotel was full of happy friendly people. The town had good food takeaway shops but pity they not facing river. Town is clean and I love the old shop facia. Good variety of small town shops.

Huntly is situated on State Highway 1 between Hamilton and Auckland. It appeared to be a sad town with a very industrial background in mining coal, the power station on the hill is still working. There was a plaque reminding of a tragic mining accident in which several people died. From the main road, there is nothing that would entice you to pull over and look further. The town is one Main Street of shops, many of which are food outlets or budget shops. There is a river running through the the town. It is only 1 1/2 hours from Auckland airport.

Staff were extremely helpful to the point of offering me a free breakfast when they realized I was probably not going to have time to grab any in town. Other people who I attended an event near town with also mentioned that staff were happy to check them in very late, past midnight, when their travel delayed them. Really great, I'll be coming back if I'm ever going through Huntly again and will be recommending them to anyone I know who heads through that direction.

Excellent location overlooking the wider Huntly area. Some real character about this location so I'm really pleased we deviated off the track to Huntly. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. Excellent value for money.
