Tawharanui is a beautiful part of Northland, with a variety of outdoor pursuits in the area. Its handy to Matakana, Omaha and Leigh and of course Tawharanui regional park. I wish we had had more time to explore.

Extremely picturesque beaches.
Extremely picturesque beaches. There were rocks and rockpools, strewn seaweed, a cave, white sand, rolling waves, places to climb and places to walk and plenty of surfing. The road is long and winding to reach the end of the peninsula but well worth the drive. There are lots of places to park but the parks were surprisingly full over Easter. Even so, the beach spaces were far from crowded. A lovely seemingly remote spot. Bring your own food and drinks.
