Thames is a quiet town with quite a few coffee shops and a good variety of stores to browse. The supermarket (Pack & Save) was close to where we were staying. There are several locations close to Thames that are worth a visit The Gold mine just north of town Cathedral beach and the hot water beach are worth the time to check out. A scenic drive up to Coramandel town is interesting. Just be careful on the narrow sea side road. Enjoy

Didnt know which cafe to choose, but this one had a lot of people in it, so we chose this one.Hot chocolate cafe. The big breakfast and the pancakes were delicious. Quaint, busy little township, just caught the tail end of the market. We stumbled on another cafe further up, which sold this devine louise cake & caramel wheaty slice. Yummy. I thoroughly enjoyed the Nakontong Thai restaurant for dinner too.

Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good.

Shared bathroom and toilet wasn't good. Luckily for me there was only one other guest a female but that was awkward as we both wanted to shower at the same time. Lucky for both of us there were not 3 couples staying at the same time.

The Coastal walkway is a good walk. Old town worth a visit. Lots of good places to eat in town and some good shops and cafes. Lots of walks up the Kauaeranga river Valley in the Cormandel Forest Park. Good base for surrounding areas, we did full circuit of Carmandel from here. Also enjoyed Gold mines tour at Waihi and walks on the Whatawheta river gorge

The Thames Goldmine Experience was awesome.

The Thames Goldmine Experience was awesome. It is run by volunteers that are passionate about keeping the history alive. We've been to several mine attractions, but this is the only one that has original equipment that actually runs for demonstration.

Chartre Manor was for us an ideal place to stay. We were warmly greeted by Anna-Marie and she went over and above to supply us with breakfast food, snacks, drinks, which we highly appreciated. The location on a hill overlooking the land and the water was great. There were sheep and rabbits in the field, which along with the many birds gave a relaxing atmosphere. The cottage is very quiet and spacious. Thames has several good restaurants. We would definitely stay here again when we visit New Zealand.

Friendly easygoing owners of a historical building that is part of the Thames/Coromandel experience. The owners are very open about the “gold rush” simplicity of their home & provided lots of history to go with it. The whole package worked well for us. And yes, key to b&b success, breakfast arrangements were great for getting our days off to a good start, on time & owners were keen to assist in providing information and/or supplies where they could. THANK YOU!

A nice holiday park with plenty to do within the park and nearby. A nice river to swim in, some trails, games like table tennis, very friendly and helpful staff, and seemingly booked by overall good people. I ended up adding another night as I grew comfortable and really established myself into New Zealand, as this was my second spot I stayed during my trip. The kitchen was also pretty nice and well equipped.

Talk about the history of the Lady Bowen; availability of self help to tea, coffee, biscuits and chocolate and a fridge to put food in. Lovely out door area and a complimentary beer or wine on arrival was very much appreciated. Decor was sympathetic to the history of the hotel but was very comfortable and tastefully done. Great lounge area with pool table. Cooked breakfast was yummy. Would definitely recommend.

At first, my expectations were low of Thames and the area in general however the town and the Cottages + Chalets blew us away. The view of the town from the chalets is spectacular - perfect view of the sunset over the water. The bed was comfortable, and the location of the chalets was up on a hill so we weren't near all the passing traffic. The host was also lovely and friendly. Overall, a wonderful stay.

We liked the little cabin because we have everything we need there, beds, kitchen, fridge and our own bathroom. Perfect for when you travel with little kids. We have a good time there, just bad weather and sick kids, not the best combination but we enjoyed as much as we could. It is a great playgorund in the property and another in Thames, just at 10 minutes drive, my little one loved both!

Gorgeous views from the top of a hill over Thames, with a panoramic view from windows on three sides of the accomodation. Very clean with super comfortable beds, and very friendly hosts. Siegfried makes the best bread in the Southern Hemisphere and possibly the north! The cooked breakfast is excellent. I’ll stay here each time I am in Thames. Vielen Dank für eine wundervolle Erfahrung!

Big room and bathroom. Very comfortable furnishings. Kitchen was stocked with all necessary cooking equipment. Lovely little touches like a handmade postcard gift and cards and dice to use for playing games. The hotel was also making a conscientious effort to reduce or eliminate the use of plastics.
