I like Whakatane area it has some great shop's, but when were in the Bay of Plenty we spend most of our time in beautiful Matata and Kawerau visiting with whanau. The beaches in Matata are truly beautiful, Matata is another great place to visit it's 20mins out of Whakatane great for fishing.

Whakatane is great for walkers with plenty of paths and toilets. Its family friendly and very clean. Pedestrian crossings seem to be missing but the locals were great and stopped at all the courtesy stops. We found some great places to eat and notes the town had more than everything you would need. Impressive little place for a short stay.

Whakatane has a huge variety of shopping stores, eating facilities, bars, hairdressers in fact everything really and for everyone. The Hub which is just across the bridge is another shopping area with Kmart and Briscoe being my favourites but again shopping for everyone. Bunnings the huge warehouse is a goldmine easy to get carried away when shopping there. The walkway/cycling lane along the waterfront is an awesome stroll. Accomodation....heaps to choose from....you have to visit to appreciate Whakatane.

We loved Whakatane.
We loved Whakatane. Wandering around the shops or along the river was lovely. We enjoyed watching the boats and everyone was very friendly. Over the hill at Ohope Beach was brilliant for sea swimming.
Clean facilities, board games, all the facilities like our own home, host was hospitable, texted us a welcome and instructions on self check in. Great to have space and self contained facilities after being in a hotel room for 3 nights. Especially washing machine after 3 days if Waka ama Nationals. Even up to date magazines. Breakfast cereal, milk and bread. Thank you Vince a great host.
I always wanted to stay at this Hotel after having lived in Whakatane for a few years. The history of the pub fascinat4ed me as an Irish Pub now owned by, I think, Chinese people. It was the location that also attracted me to stay there for my three day trip which I shortened to two days. Staff very polite and helpful. Good value for the money. Thank you again.
I needed a room last minute. The hotel was central and had clean sheets with super comfy pillows. I was lucky enough to get a room with a bathroom at the last minute. Albeit being above the hotel, it was very quiet. The team made it easy to check in and out. It was exactly what was expected as depicted on the website. Not fancy but served my need on the day.
Lovely clean rooms, bed linen clean and crisp. Comfy bed. All the amenities of home. Older model motel, but still loved it. Having an indoor pool was a bonus. Nice friendly staff. Even though on the main road into Whakatane, it was still quiet, couldn't hear traffic noise. Definitely would come back here.
Everything was excellent. The room was exactly as in the photos. The owner and staff were very friendly and helpfull especially regarding sightseeing in and around Whakatane and Ohope Beach.
Accommodation was very clean and comfortable, and the location is very central and close to town.
Highly recommended.
Eddie was very welcoming. Before arrival his communication was amazing. Beautiful and comfortable rooms. Handy carpark right outside our door. Hotplate for cooking. Pullout couch for 4th person. Courtyard with spa. Everything was amazing and we will be making this our 1st choice when staying in Whakatāne.
Exceptional service and welcome! The room was warm, well appointed and clean to the standard of any Hotel expectations. Comfortable bed and linen, gorgeous bonus goodies in the bathroom and everything we needed in the kitchen. Highly recommend this motel to anyone visiting Whakatane.
The place is really comfortable and we have everything we need. We have seen how they maintain the cleanliness in the vicinity specially the rooms, they really maintain it well (we booked the executive room with spa)... We will book again soon as we visit Whakatane again!!!
Jill was pleasant, friendly and kind. The Landing Motel is our favourite Whakatane accomodation because it’s clean, inviting, warm and the spa bath is a real treat for us, healing and soothing for our tired working bodies.
The location was great. Walking distance to town and a great walking track just behind the park. Great facilities for the kids in a family friendly, safe holiday park. Cabins were warm.
Great little unit, plenty of space and very cozy with air con and couch and dining table, two double beds, very nice, I would highly recommend this place if you are coming to Whakatane.
It was very clean and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful, and checkin/checkout was super easy. Great value for money - we'll be back next time we're in Whakatane!
We stayed in the cabins at the back of the motel. They were lovely and clean. The bed was massive and so comfortable. Would definitely recommend these cabins.
One of the best places I have ever stayed at in New Zealand. We had a two bedroom suite and we will definitely be back, it was nicer than a 5 star hotel
