Well, the review left gave me wrong impression. It is quite reasonable by the price.

This town is a car crash! - despite Unesco city of creativity.
1-2 hours plenty to look around the last remaining intact bits of town, apart from visiting on a Thursday when supposedly there is a market going on.
So many other places to see in the area!
Why waste your time?

We were there for Dance World Cup finals in Braga so didn't see a lot of Barcelos but surrounding areas very beautiful. Lots of stunning countryside covered in vineyards. Definitely would go back to explore more!

The city is beautiful and with a lot of monuments and churches to visit. It also had some pretty interesting shops in a central shopping area and some interesting looking restaurants. From traditional to hipster food- you can find everything there. The day I visited, the city had a huge market in the center, street food and entertainment. There were some traditional music concerts, traditional dancing, flower and light decorations all over... Very pretty. I was positively surprised by the mixture of historical and city-like vibes.

Barcelos is an attractive market town, worth a visit in its own right. We visited to see the famous Thursday morning market but were a little disappointed. As veterans of many markets around the world, this was large and certainly worth seeing for the wide range of delicious local produce, including ducklings and other young fowls for sale and traditional gardening and tilling instruments plus locally made diy materials. There was modern furniture too. However, we found the pottery and earthenware a little disappointing, stall after stall of basic chunky red clay pots, but few quality or hand painted items. Also few traditional cotton items for which Portugal is so renowned - towels, bedspreads, curtains, tablecloths. We could happily have spent more time exploring Barcelos itself but had only allowed time for the market, before the short drive to Porto.

Barcelos is a sleepy, medieval town where we stayed for 4 nights in total. The town has several nice bars and restaurants with numerous medieval buildings if you're after some history.
The one downside being we struggled to get Ubers out of the town and down to Porto and Braga.
This was such a lovely place, exceptional quality in every respect—from beautiful renovation within traditional stone walls, to the aesthetic design and details of tile and wood, to the cozy warmth of the soft and comfortable bedding. The hosts were very kind people—who brought us delicious breakfast in a picnic basket each morning! We loved staying so close to Barcelos, but in this little slice of rural paradise. Highly recommended!
Amazing family-run country estate surrounded by nature, green hills and lemon groves. The staff was extremely caring and accommodating (Phillipa, we already miss you!), facilities and location are excellent, a nice breakfast. A perfect spot for a relaxing vacation with tons of options for exciting day-trips all around the wonderful Northern Portugal. We hope to be back next year!
The staff was extremely nice and helpful. They went an extra mile to make us happy. The helped book train tickets to Bon Jesus, offered us coffee before breakfast was available, kept our backpacks when we took side trip.
Room was clean and comfortable. The hotel is very close to the old town and good restaurants.
Perfect place to stay.
There is no one on site and you have to check in just down the road at the Art Hotel. Bedroom was comfortable with private shower room. Unfortunately it was quite noisy with the other guests in and out - loud door bangs etc. Could just be thin walls. There is a communal kitchen and sitting area which is very handy. Check out was easy.
The room was a lovely design, and very clean. Situated within a lovely garden. A nice conservatory room for breakfast, cooking, playing games (provided) etc. Situated 10 min drive from the beautiful town of Barcelos. Overall, very good value for money. We would stay here again for sure.
Perfect location, near very good restaurants, in a lovely small city. Excellent breakfast, with lots of choices, and very good coffee. If you're walking the Camino, consider a rest day in Barcelos to enjoy the wonderful Thursday market across the street.
Great location! The staff went the extra distance to ensure our stay in Barcelos and the hotel was wonderful. Breakfast was varied and outstanding. We also ate at the Bagoeria restaurant for dinner (not included in hotel price); it was fabulous.
This little hotel is located in one of the main Camino towns. The room with a little balcony was perfect for the two of us. Clean and quiet. There is a big common area on the main floor with a full kitchen. The breakfast was very good.
Extremely helpful staff, my partner arrived injured and they took great care of us. Just outside Barcelos but super fast to get to the ruins and center, and right on the Camino. And breakfast was delicious! Love the homemade jams.
Amazing family property, a lovely garden and pool. The family is welcoming and the staff is very helpful. Has great potential but lacks a bit of that hotel professional service that justifies the price.
Had the apartment room which was decorated to a high standard, and well equipped. Very comfortable. Good breakfast service in the adjoining cafe. Good location in the historic centre of Barcelos.
The hotel was central, very well appointed, staff very helpful and everywhere very clean both hotel and wine bar on the side had a great young vibe. Really enjoyed our stay.
The hotel, located in downtown of Barcelos, was modern and comfortable. It's a large hotel room with a double bed and 2 single beds. We enjoyed our stay.
