The monastery / cathedral was great.
The monastery / cathedral was great. And there was a great little flea market Sunday morning in the adjacent parking lot focused on antiques. I had dinner in an excellent restaurant across from my hotel, just behind the monastery and was really rather impressed. And of course Super Bock was available everywhere.

The room was clean and comfortable, the pool was lovely, the breakfast was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful. There is even an area where they highlight the work of local artisans. The restaurant recommendation turned out to be one of the best meals we had during our 3 weeks in Portugal. Overall, the hotel made us feel very welcome and relaxed. Hosts very friendly. Lovely small garden in back, guests encouraged to enjoy and feed the animals (shelled corn provided) - chickens, ducks, hamsters, rabbit, goats, sheep, and pony that they let kids ride.
