Really great place to be out of the madness. We stayed at the Royal River Kwai which was stunning. It was quiet, there was bird song. We took a river tour and went to an elephant sanctuary where we fed the elephants after helping them wash in the river and walking with them in the jungle. We didn't have enough time to do the train trip too and the main town area looked fun to check out - which we didn't have time to do either. We stayed 3 days here - I would recommend staying 5 or more - especially if you want to have days where you do nothing.

Great to visit such an important wartime location and experience just a tiny bit of what many prisoners of war had to endure. As with all sites like this, it’s not somewhere you go for fun, but it’s an important part of history and keeps the memory alive

Kanchanaburi was a fun place to stay for two nights.
Kanchanaburi was a fun place to stay for two nights. Erawan waterfall was definitely worth a visit. I was there in early March and other waterfalls in the area I was told might not be worth the trip due to having less water. Erawan has much less water this time of year than the rainy season, but it was still a very beautiful place to visit. I enjoyed the railroad museum and seeing the bridge over the river Kwai. There are good food and coffee options in Kanchanaburi and the train from Bangkok was a fun (but hot) experience.

Fantastic city to expand your knowledge of WWII. The Bridge.
Fantastic city to expand your knowledge of WWII. The Bridge. Thai-Burma Railway Museum (don't waste your time with any of the others). Commonwealth graves immaculately maintained. Hellfire Pass an hour away (watch The Railway Man before you go). Also great golf.

We loved a 2 days stay at ElephantsWorld!!!
We loved a 2 days stay at ElephantsWorld!!! That was the most incredible experinece so far in my life. The elephants are not chained, they walk around on their own, and after the afternoon visits leave the place you can stay alone with them.
We also loved Erawan Falls a lot! And of course you go to see the River Kwai Bridge. But we could have stayed for a week or more in the region - it is beautiful!

Apart from the attraction of the Commonwealth War Graves(...
Apart from the attraction of the Commonwealth War Graves(including many Dutch graves), the Bridge over the River Kwai and the War Museums, it is quite a large town, but without much to attract the average tourist. It is the gateway to the surrounding area with lovely countryside and other War memorials etc. But it really is not a holiday town.
Joy and her sister are so sweet! They took so good care of me! Everything was so great. I had a great time. Breakfast for the low price very good. Room was very good, fine airco also. If you want to see something than you can rent a bicycle or motorbike.
Please be carefull when you get a link on Booking.com when they ask you to pay. That is scam! Joy warned me for that! You DONT need to pay before you are in the Canaan Guesthouse.
If I am again in Kanchanaburi then I am sure that I go again to Canaan Guesthouse.
The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. As a solo female traveler, I felt they also took extra care of me and made sure I was always comfortable and had everything I needed. The location on the river is perfect and I greatly enjoyed dining and relaxing by the river each evening. The hotel is also within walking distance of the River Kwai Bridge, night market, and many other restaurants. I look forward to staying here again in the future!
The hotel is in a beautiful setting in vicinity of the River Kwai bridge. Though it is a large compound the setting with many lush green areas, large water ponds full of fish and a great swimming pool gives the hotel a character. Breakfast offered was a good buffet. Dinner at the floating terrace on the river was really nice albeit with slow service (which the staff told me upfront, in fairness)
Simple ABF breakfast from 7-10am, ala carte buffet.
Firm pillows upon request. Small but clean pool on 2nd floor.
Close proximity to River Kwai train station, 7 Eleven ( open 24 hours ), Amazon Cafe & ATMS.
Microwave, Fridge, basic plates and cutleries available.
Excellent Location-come down at the River Kwai Train Station instead of Kanchanaburi Station ( 200 meter walk to Hotel )
It’s super clean, the owner is always checking everything is in order and that the bathrooms and toilets smell good. It’s a verily lovely place to stay in Kanchanaburi.
During our last evening, we had an issue with electricity in our room (no electricity), and although it would have been fine, the owner insisted on giving us an additional room for us to sleep with aircon.
This is a lovely hotel with excellent service and the friendliest and most helpful staff. The location is simply stunning, right on the river with a view of the Bridge Over the River Kwai and beautiful sunsets from the terrace bar. We loved our stay and would highly recommend if you're going to be in Kanchanaburi.
Perfect to stay away from city but not more than 2 nights. Very good THAI FOOD and very polite staff. This hotel is touching the river so you can do water sports easy. swimming pool is on the edge of the river . very clean and small hotel but worth to visit and specially sun rise and sun set is enjoyable.
The location is great, quiet and close to the downtown, and not far from the night market. The apartment was 3 floors, but makes you feel like home. I enjoyed staying there'd will definitely choose this hotel for my next visit.
Great location near River Kwai bridge and other historical places . Pool was nice bonus after day of site seeing . Helpful staff . Walkable to good restaurants. Hotel is very nice . Price/ value was excellent .
The hotel offers basic air con, en suite rooms or floating rooms on a river barge. Good views from the patio and there are plenty of food options nearby. 8 minute walk from the train station.
