These buildings are a replica of Kennecott Copper Mine in1914. And the city of McCarthy. One building said 1817. Some are complaining that “they haven’t improved the property for over 5 years”. You missed the whole concept. My tiny cabin was an original railroad cabin from 1914. They shipped it in “as is”. $50 per night. And the sound of the extremely loud raging Klutina River suggests that you turn the television OFF. Being the Arctic Desert it was very hot. +80 degrees in July. They have a bar onsite. And a lunch wagon that has incredible food. Grocery stores & gas stations within a few miles. I only wish I could’ve stayed longer!

This place has not changed in decades and that is a good thing if you want to see the real Alaska. Locals are great and interesting. Super scenery for miles in all directions as you are at the entrance to Wrangells-St. Elias NP.
