Amazing mountains but hiking is not well established and they try to keep tourists to a couple of specific spots. I think some mountains are off limits due to military but with some modern and professional tourism development, the potential to unlock these impressive mountains and forests is amazing.
I loved being on the island and was hit hard by what I saw in the museum and historical prisons. Definitely worth checking out.
I would have to say that the beaches are average and if you're an explorer looking for isolated little bays etc., you'll find some beautiful places decorated with all sorts of plastic ranging in colour and age.
When i go there again - which I will in better weather - I will get out on the water and find places to go diving and island hopping.
A really nice place with lots of "potential" if developed properly. I'll be back as there is plenty to explore...

Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches.
Very peaceful and quiet island with lovely beaches. The snorkeling was okay but as the ocean was quite rough we had to go to different islands than the ones recommended. Maybe the other islands would have been more impressive. Most of the restaurants were seafood with huge tanks full of live fish etc....not really our thing. We discovered Bar 200 and Ula Cafe. Both had great food and happy friendly staff.

Very small island, better rent a motorbike, but many small taxi,
Very good beach and seaside, no traffic. It's a good place to relax.
It's a very important place for Vietnamese people, for Vietnam History.
The museum and the prison must to be visited and Vo Thi Sau grave.

The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there.
The main warning: do NOT use ferry boat to go there. It is 4-4.5 hours of vomiting for entire boat. 7/9 right next to me were vomiting. Sorry for starting from such a nasty details, but you should be aware of it :)
This island is very different from the rest of Vietnam, because comparing with the rest of Vietnam it is nearly empty :) And that's awesome! Road traffic is very low.
At the same time I had a feeling that entire island is targeting local customers, who came to visit prison, to respect memory of their relatives, who passed away there. Because of that, huge amount of shops are selling stuff for bringing it to tomb or church.
As a consequence of point above, it is very-very difficult to find non-local food. I would say 99% places offer only local food.
Another consequence is that noise from locals in night and early morning time (starting from 4-5 am when they wake up): karaoke, just shouting on the street, shouting behind your door in hotel, etc., etc.
Make sure you have earplugs, though they not always help.
I think the best you can do on this island is to rent motorbike and explore it yourself. There are quite some places with really amazing view! And not crowded. Again, it is unbelievable for Vietnam :) If you are in diving, most probably you can do it there as well.

The historical prison, the one thing we were looking forward to seeing on this island was closed. The beaches and nature trails are so beautiful, but the island seems a bit soul less. a few beach bars or restaurants that play live music would be so nice.

Great hotels with friendly and professional staff.
Great hotels with friendly and professional staff. Some of the best service in Vietnam. Incredible scenery. The water is crystal clear. Getting around the island was easy. Taxis were reasonably priced and driving around on a rented motorbike was fun. The highlight for me was visiting the grave of Vo Thi Sau at dusk. It was a very special experience. Also, do yourself a favor and go to the Beach House restaurant. Its run by talented people and I almost stayed an extra day just to eat there one more time. Finally, the helicopter ride back to Vung Tau was great. Well worth the money. No major complaints but there aren't too many accessible beaches on the island so I wish I had spent more time at Dam Trau Beach near the airport. I also wish I had prepared better for the nature walk in the national park. Next time, I'll bring my own snorkel gear and hiking shoes. Also, the island is full of dogs and a few noisy people which makes it hard to get a good night's sleep. Otherwise, it's well worth a visit. Unfortunately, the Vung Tau Ferry only runs once a week which makes it pretty useless, especially when their staff don't bother to update the schedule. I'm not sure what's going on there.
Loved our stay here! The hosts were super nice and very helpful, being able to hire the motorbikes made it really easy to get around the island, and we really enjoyed having various spots around the house where you could lounge and relax outside of your room (including wooden swings!). The stir fried seafood noodles were delicious - I think we ended up ordering them 3 times! - as were the fruits & yoghurt for breakfast. Overall, one of our favourite places to stay from our whole trip to Vietnam and Thailand!
Super pleasant place to stay on Con Dao islands Mrs Tuyen is very hospitable and helpful, will get you airport taxi, rental scooter, breakfast and small help.
You can relax in the garden, room was quite spacious and clean. Hotel is located outside the center so it's quiet, but you better rent a scooter to get around (which you will do anyway on the island to enjoy it)
Next time on Con Dao out family will stay again here definitely.
This is a brand new property and I am sure it will become one of the most popular hotels in Con Dao. The room was largest we had during our 30 days in Vietnam. The balcony was a lovely bonus. The location was a short walk from beach, the supermarket was on the corner and popular cafes such as Infiniti and An O’i. The view from the roof was great. The staff were amazing and couldn’t help enough.
We really loved the location. Eden House is located about 1km outside of town where it is nice and quiet. We rented a scooter which made the distance no problem. We also loved the coffees and smoothies made by our host each morning. Hosts were also available if we needed anything. Rooms and bathrooms were exceptionally clean. we loved our stay and would stay there again if ever we revisited Con Dao.
Yuen’s house is located within walking distance from many restaurants and cafés, the prisons and Lo Voi beach. The garden with all kinds of plants is beautiful and we loved the „boho“-style decoration of the room. It’s easily the most stylish room you can find on Con Dao. Uyen’s House offers motorcycles for rent which was super comfy. The staff is super warm and friendly and we felt very welcome!
This hotel is located in very quiet place and really in 1-2 minutes walk to the Sea. Personnel in hotel are absolutely friendly and hospitality. They've helped us with every request that we asked for. Highly reccomend this place, surely we will come back in Con Dao and definetly will stay in this Hotel. Thanks!
Shin is the most caring host. He took care of everything: airport transfer, wonderful boat & snorkeling experience to other islands, tips, bike rentals, good food, local wine, music.. Also wonderful oasis for hyper chill times. Genuine Vietnamese vibes, much more enjoyable than a regular hotel stay.
Welcoming host and cosy hotel on Con Dao, especially if a crowded resort is not your style. Great cafe with both western and local breakfast in a few minutes walking distance and the room with has all you need, even if a bit small. No need to set an alarm - the roosters may wake you.
Everything was perfect. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Good location, private beach , the pool is very big and clean, delicious food, free pick up services. I would like to stay for longer. Highly recommended
Good local private beach, very clean. Pool is also nice and clean.
Free transfer from airoport or ferry station.
There are new motobike renting service availbale in the hotel.
Nice restaurant terrace near the beach
Amazing and immersive experience in con dao nature. Good location outside but near the town. Free bike and possibility to rent a motorbike. Very good value. The housekeeper has been very friendly. Raccomanded.
Beautiful infinity pool, lovely view from the room, beautiful private beach in a lovely green secluded part of the island with stunning nature and monkeys! Very helpful and sweet reception staff.
The breakfast was excellent, the staff were so friendly & helpful. The management are very customer focused & responsive.
The island is unspoiled & not yet crowded with tourists.
Location 2km from town. 4aud taxi fare, scooter for hire. Staff friendly. No lift, if you’re on the 3rd floor 🙃 very tranquil village. Beds are typical rock hard vietnamese beds.
Hotel has nice decor. Excellent breakfast with many options and tasty food. Quite good location so you can walk to the Con Dao's central area. Friendly and supportive staff
