Barbara's breakfasts were great. The location of the Ibis is perfect for sight-seeing, etc. Barbara guided us to all of the best restaurants for dinners and also the dinner we had at the Ibis on the Sunday was perfect. Her suggestions on further sight-seeing excursions were spot on.

The Bethesda, hotel in Nieu-Bethesda

Featuring garden views, The Bethesda provides accommodation with patio, around 300 metres from Owl House Museum. This property offers access to a terrace and free private parking.

Carla was such an amazing host. She met us at the parking with her trusty hound "veldskoen"at her side. What a friendly welcome. She quickly gave us a tour of the facility and immediate made us feel at home, even provided us with a lovely hand drawn (by an artist) map of the area. She even recommended a few places for dinner. We had a lovely room and the old-world flair is just so beautiful in all the decoration - the attention to detail special. We even had veld flowers in our room at the writing desk & coffee & tea with home baked goodies to nibble on. As we were left to our own devices - we settled in and had a lovely sundowner on the front veranda, while we took in the special sunset and watched the hustle and bustle in the street in front of us. We will most definately be back.

Disappointing. People have a take-it-or-leave it attitude. Deli and brewery dead, church not accessible, museums way overpriced, farm stall not welcoming, shop ripped us off. Graveyard very good, the wire men fascinating, the little forest walk good. Place has huge potential unrealised by the attitude of the people

Nieu Bethesda is an amazing mix of historic and trendy, with wonderful shops, restaurants and art. The only thing that really could improve is the local shop, which really doesn't do the town any favours. It only stocks the most basic, low-end food, and no local produce! For example, if you are looking for yoghurt, all you can find is the mass produced stuff you would get at Checkers or Pick n Pay, actually worse than that. Even the fruit they stocked was stale. This shop is cute - don't get me wrong, I love its authentic smallness, but it could do much better on the produce inside it.

We enjoyed the Zalig restaurant with delicious pizza, wine and a view of the Karoo outside. A quick visit to the church in town was worth it, with beautifully maintained gardens. A tranquil, peaceful little town, with gravel roads, friendly locals, and a unique Karoo personality! The town is neat, well maintained and felt really safe.

It is an amazing experience to travel back in time but with modern conveniences. The museums, art galeries, the owl house, etc was great to see. The people are very friendly and eager to tell you about their town. The food at the various restuarants was great.

The BEST Karoo village in South Africa.

The BEST Karoo village in South Africa. Step back in time and enjoy the most special of unspoilt places and in November the roses are in full bloom everywhere! The tree lined dirt roads have horses roaming freely. The people are so friendly. So much to see and experience - art galleries, museums, restaurants, micro brewery and more.
