Koundo Guest House is a beautiful 2-store traditional style japanese house located in a lovely neighborhood nearby many touristic spots in Nikko. The manager - a kind and discrete old japanese man who sleeps in a room downstairs - receptioned us with soft drinks and showed us the house facilities and a map of the neighborhood. We loved the whole experience and we certainly want to come back one day.

Our host, Sato kindly picked us up from the station and let us drop off our luggage do we could go sight seeing. She also welcomed us with delicious treats, and useful tips and recommendations to make our stay easier. After longs days of walking and sight seeing, we couldn’t wait to come home to Nikko Cottage Yurt. It truly felt like a home away from home.

Modern, clean, comfortable beds, spacious for a family. A very short walk from train station, using the foot bridge that goes from the station and over the railway tracks. We found it easy with our big suitcases.Has an auto-fill bathtub, and auto-reheats the bath water too. 3 comfortable double beds in one room, plus a tatami room. Toilet upstairs and downstairs. Kitchen has everything you need to make meals, incl fridge, microwave, rice cooker and kettle. Laundry liquid supplied for washing machine. Lawsons store nearby for groceries. Instructions provided in English in the house manual for operating the washing machine and hot water and appliances. A wonderful stay and we would highly recommend this if you want to be near Edo Wonderland (4km away) (there is a local bus, shuttle bus and taxi) and the suspension bridge walk to the lookout (12min walk). Easy to get a train to Nikko to see the shrines and abyss - highly recommend to book in advance the free volunteer guide Yumiko to show you around Nikko.

The villa was super comfortable and cozy and had everything you'd need. I slept so well on the futon beds. Nikko and the Guesthouse were lovely and charming. We only stayed one night but wish we had more time. Highly recommend and hope to come back some day!

The room cost exclusive breakfast but they made it for free. The day we arrived it snow heavily, my friend shoe sole came off and the landlord fixed it for her, otherwise she won't able to travel around Nikko as the shoe shop closed. Beside that the next day, the landlord drove us to the Nikko heritage area and train station with no extra charge. I would like to rate this accommodation millions out of ten :)

Their communal area with a fireplace and comfy sofas worked very well for our large family group.
