You honestly couldn't ask for better people. The staff were muy amable (gentle, kind, helpful). The hostel is local, thoughtfully put together and in an awesome location. We walked to the observatory and a local restaurant, that is, when we weren't eating Norma's amazing food the hostel. Also, is as advertised. So, yes, it's rustic. This isn't a luxury stay. The place runs on solar power, which they save up during the day so that the guests can have the fans running at night. The bathrooms are a bit dingy but they are clean. Having a local experience with such warm people more than made up for the loss of a few creature comforts. Maul gave us a tour of both deserts and he was energetic, friendly, and super knowledgeable. If you don't have any Spanish language, you probably won't get the full experience here, but there were several guests with virtually no Spanish and the staff still went out of their way to ensure a pleasant stay.

Pretty easy to do the 2 parts of Tatacoa yourself but Schneider added lots of value by way of his knowledge. Villevieja is as noisy as it gets so don't stay inside the town unless you are deaf and on a tight budget. Cosmos is just outside the noise blast zone and very conveniently on road to Tatacoa, but an easy walk into town.

Even though we only speak some words of Spanish and the owners don’t speak English, communication worked well. Note that you can’t expect luxury but a warm and friendly atmosphere (with dogs and cats). The location is perfect to explore the deserts on your own or with a guide (which we recommend booking with the owners).
