Leonardo Royal Southampton Grand Harbour, hotel in Fawley

With a stunning glass atrium and impressive spa, Leonardo Royal Hotel Southampton Grand Harbour is situated on Southampton Waterfront.

The air conditioning did not work ( reported) No attempt to repair or even investigate! Curtains would not close subsequently sun streaming in to patio doors. Attempts at using the fan proved too noisy Using the continuous bathroom extractor to enable at least an attempt at some sort respite required the bathroom light permanently switched on. Since no door wedges were available the luggage rack came in useful. In the morning finally contacted the new duty Manager who attended the room her reaction was "its very warm" That was early morning with the doors open and the sun not directly on the room. She kindly offered 20 percent off the bill ( all she was entitled to) We stay regularly at this hotel and have been Offered "bells and whistles next visit " Very disappointed at our stay. Which incidentally as you are aware is not low cost. In the past we have attempted the breakfast. Sadly never again. We both love the location and the accomadation but at present not happy.

BEST WESTERN New Holmwood Hotel, hotel in Fawley

Set in Cowes, Isle of Wight region, BEST WESTERN New Holmwood Hotel is situated 3.5 km from Osborne House.

The evening meals in the restaurant were well-prepared and nicely presented, not big portions. Helpful and friendly front-of-house staff. Very accommodating thank you to them, the staff were a great advert for the island. The bed was fine and big and the bed room furniture was good, not so the rest of the suite.

Our main reason for staying was to attend the Southampton Boat Show. This Guest House meant we could use the Hythe Ferry, and not get stuck driving in Southampton's heavy traffic. Convenience was therefore very good. Reviews we read before booking rated the Guest House highly, and that is why we booked. We fully realise that since early 2020, life for the owners of such properties has been very difficult. Even now sensible restrictions remain, and we fully complied, wearing a mask whenever out of our room. We perhaps expected too much. However, a friend runs a very successful B&B in mid Devon, at a similar cost to the Walcot House. She has won awards, and the standards of her rooms (in an old farmhouse), and the breakfast supplied to guests, is far and away superior to our experience at Fawley. The owners of Walcot House we are sure, are trying very hard, but the experience for us as guests was rather uninspiring, lacking any warmth, and no apologies for a faulty bathroom light (bulb replaced), and the lack of hot water on the last morning. We are sorry to be writing in this way, but hope that these comments can be seen as constructive, rather than merely complaining.
