lovely town with some very old French style houses. the beach is clean and a good place to swim or play. Can go boating on the river. there's a huge mangrove forest opposite the beach with plenty of bird life. close to Tranquebar

The place is very well known for Karaikal Ammaiyar Mangani Festival, which happens in July Month. There are many historic tamil hindu temples in and around the town. Since it falls aside bay of bengal, the beach is quite good and peaceful to spend time. Not many is aware of the Thamroot Halwa, which is unique and can get in Karaikal only. Nagoor Halwa Shop is one of the famous one who prepares and sells this halwa. Since the city is part of Union Territory as Pondicherry, Liquor cost is cheap here as compared to Tamilnadu.
