Reasonable sized rooms for a Japanese chain hotel. Good breakfast and laundry facilities. This is a smoking hotel - we had a non-smoking room which was fine however there was a cigarette smell in the lifts and corridors.

Small Ryokan. Well located near the sea. Excellent food. Nice room and wonderful Onsen on the roof with a sea-view. on the evening, we listened to the Lady owner telling us her own story surviving the 2011 tsunami and helping dozen of people the following days. Her story was really emotional and she is a true heroine. I am glad we met her and I am very happy to spend one night in this hotel to help local economy.

I stayed longer than I intended. The little town radiates peacefullness. And so does this guesthouse. I felt so comfortable and respected here. I was so perfectly treated I just wanted to stay longer. I actually did. And I want to go back. Live at the end of the world again, feel that small measure of peace again.

Kamaishi is easily accessible from Tokyo or Sendai.

Kamaishi is easily accessible from Tokyo or Sendai. It's between Miyako to the north and Rikuzentakata to the south, with many small towns in between. I used the Sanriku Railroad and Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) to get around. It's a fantastically gorgeous coastal region that rivals the famous Three Sceneries of Japan (Sankei). One could spend weeks or months in the region hopping from town to town to get to know this unique area of Japan.
