Clean, staff super nice, this is a small town so do not expect they would speak English but they try really hard to explain themselves using the translator and super nice and helping in everything they can

From the very beginning of out stay at Soy Guesthouse I knew it would be the highlight of our trip to Japan. Tai-San met us at the train station and took us back to the guesthouse where Nobuko-San greeted us with Japanese tea. The Guesthouse is warm and inviting, filled with beautiful locally sourced furniture and soft jazz music. Every detail was carefully considered, from the delicious traditional Japanese breakfast Nobuko-San cooked with love each morning to the fantastic coffee and hospitality Tai-San graced us with. Tai-San helped us with local restaurant recommendations and reservations, shuttled us to and from Takayama’s city centre and helped us with really anything that we needed. I honestly feel I’ve made a life long friend in Tai-San and his family. I’ve attempted to put into words just how fabulous this guesthouse is but I feel you really need to experience it yourself to truly understand just how amazing it is. I can’t wait to stay again soon.

It's a cute homey place. The owner was friendly and accommodating. The room was warm and the bed was very comfortable and had lots of storage space. The view from the room was spectacular. The shared kitchen had all the essentials and I really enjoyed my stay. The guesthouse provides a shuttle service for no additional cost in the morning hours. The Hida Folk village is at a walking distance. The bus stop and convenience stores are 4 mins away.

I loved the authentic feel of this place. It wasn’t downtown, therefore it wasn’t walking distance to everything. But for one night stay in town, it was perfect. We arrived into town at 5pm and took a taxi for 1000y to the property. They were waiting for us and dinner was ready. We enjoyed the onsen and went to bed. We woke up in the morning and started our day at the folk Hida Village, which is a 3mins walk. Then we took the bus into town and spent the entire day in town and then left on an evening train. After spending several nights in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto in busy places. The calm, serene feeling was a nice change of scenery.
