I was informed, when I enquired, that the air conditioner is not for cooling. I think he meant that the thermostat was set and can’t be changed. Thankfully, there was a humidifier, I used this to provide cooling air. I had to open the window to let cooler air into the room. This, of course, caused highway noise to come into the room. I preferred not to overheat, however. The room temperature shouldn’t be a worry for most people. But being an older person, I’m not able to regulate my body temp as effectively as younger ones. It was also a 40 mins walk from the station. I later found out there were buses that go near the hotel. I took this upon my departure.

Very close to railway/bus station. Our first Ryokan experience and very happy with it as they had thought through what guests needed and had provided everything needed for a warm, safe, clean stay. Especially liked the ability to get hot water for tea/coffee even on the top floor. Also found a great restaurant just across the alleyway.

Lovely property that’s been very tastefully refurbished and a fun way to experience more traditional houses. Assi is very helpful and very generously gave us a lift to Magome for the Nakasendo hike. We also really enjoyed Sakashita - there were some good restaurants and it was great to escape the tourists.

The hotel looks like a beautiful little village for preservation. We slept in a small house that is over 150 years old. The staff is lovely, always looking for ways to help. Dinner and breakfast were works of art.
