Mariestad calls it self sjötown but for example in the town...
Mariestad calls it self sjötown but for example in the town it self is not a single swimming place. You will have to go outside of town and really know where to go if you want to get to swim on a beach or with small kid. Guest harbour was nice and had small cosy foodcourt.

Very few restaurants in the main centre, unless you want pizza. We went off season, but I imagine in the high season it would be very busy. We would recommnet Läckö Slott about 35kms away - stunning castle right on Lake Vannern. Mariestad also has a beautiful cathedral and harbour.

The guesthouse is a little heaven in the surroundings of Mariestad, it is well maintained, with a bountiful garden full of fruits and veggies, and a chicken coop. We stayed in the room with private bathroom (Rembrandt), very comfortable and nicely decorated. Breakfast was amazing, with fresh juices and homemade delicacies. I also enjoyed a yoga class in Alexandra's studio, very peaceful. We absolutely recommend this 'feel good' place :)

Breakfast was very good too, with a lot of homemade items and blueberries harvested in the forest. Dinner was included in the price and it was simple but delicious.
