“We made the long drive from Guangzhou and arrived after 11:00 PM, yet Mr. and Mrs. Lai were still awake and enthusiastically welcomed us. Even better, they provided us with an additional room in order to accommodate our early request to keep the two families together. In the morning, they assisted us with our travel plans up to the river. Throughout the day, they WeChatted with my Chinese friend and provided us with excellent restaurant recommendations, complete with GPS. On the morning of our departure, we walked through Mrs. Lai's beautiful garden and took a number of pictures. Then, she escorted us to the Farmer's Market where my friends bought local produce. The Lai's level of hospitality was excellent! Mrs. Lai told us that she and her husband have been in this business now for three years. They own three of the townhouses on the street and are in the process of renovating the third. The rooms are well furnished, quite comfortable, and easily on par with Western expectations. I do not know the extent of their English language ability since my Chinese friends handled everything. Breakfast was Asian: noodles, boiled eggs, congee, and youtiao. The location is lovely. The hotel is situated in a residential area less than ten minutes from town which made the experience feel much like a home stay. Indeed, the hotel is actually three townhomes repurposed for guests. There was no street noise nor crowds of people under the window. My son said he couldn't believe how well he slept while staying there! My Chinese friends and I strongly recommend this place to stay when in Zixing. We would be more than willing to stay there again! My thanks to the Lai's and their generous hospitality!”
