“I very much enjoyed my stay in this penthouse apartment in El Paso. I was met by the friendly Spanish lady keyholder who was waiting for my arrival on the bus from Santa Cruz. All communications via WhatsApp in advance. (sometimes using Google Translate). The 2 bed apartment is opposite a very large supermarket with lots of fresh produce, and just 100 metres to the bus stops, and close to a small number of bars and cafes. As a base, El Paso is ten minutes from Los Llanos one way, and ten minutes the other way to the hikes of La Caldera de las Taburiente, La Cumbrecita, and the start of the Volcano Route at El Pilar. Other than a taxi up to La Cumbrecita, I used the excellent bus service on the island for getting around, you don't need a car staying here. Get the airport bus to Santa Cruz on landing, then get the Santa Cruz to Los Llanos bus (as frequent as every 30 mins), which stops right near the apartment. Total bus cost in getting from the airport to apartment, just over 4 euros. The apartment is well equipped, spotlessly clean, with washing machine, satellite TV (mainly German, some English channels), a kitchen with large fridge freezer, microwave, induction hob. There is not an oven. The penthouse balcony overlooks the supermarket (and car park), with the sea beyond to the west. It also has great views of the valley heading down towards Los Llanos, and also looks over the landscaped park area of El Paso. The pictures with this review are off the balcony a couple of weeks ago. In conclusion if you wanted more space and independence than staying in a hotel, with all the advantages of home, i.e. washing your mucky clothes after doing a hike up a volcano, then this apartment really is a good choice. I thought it was excellent value for money, and would not hesitate in recommending it.”

“Amazing place; the artwork in and around the houses is very creative and creates a great atmosphere. There are cute, mischievous and friendly animals running around outside greeting guests. The views are fantastic during the day and the night sky is something you won't forget. It is easy to socialise in the communal area and to have a glass of wine with people you meet and chat long into the night, if you so choose. I had the great fortune to meet friendly fellow travellers while I was there and made some great memories meeting new people. “It was a beautiful, privately owned, well-equipped bungalow within a group of similar bungalows. The west-looking terrace had a wonderful view of the sea and was very private. The owner has gone to a lot of trouble to provide everything needed on holiday. The kitchen was one of the best equipped we have experienced including the basic oils and spices you might need when cooking. She also provided plenty of information about the island and restaurants etc. There is a must-visit restaurant, 'Franchipani', on the corner to the main road but was only open Thursday to Sunday when we were there.”

“We had an excellent time and from the word go we had a really nice experience. Maite met us at a convenient location for handover of the keys and then took us to the property where she explained thoroughly how to find everything and how it worked. The property is large and spacious with a huge outdoor area so you can pick if you wish to be in the sun or shade, sheltered from the breeze or being cooled by it. We never tired of the views of both the mountains and the sea and we loved the sunsets. The washing machine was new and easy to use and there was a washing line with ample pegs, drying clothes only took a couple of hours even during the winter months when we visited. El Paso is a short drive or a 15 minute walk away and has some lovely streets and a very good choice for bars and restaurants (we particularly liked Tapas and Trekking situated next door to the little church). We had a car and there was plenty of off road parking. However, a car is not essential as the bus stop for the no 300 bus (Santa Cruz to Los Llanos) is about 50m from the house in the Los Llanos direction and 100m from the house in the Santa Cruz direction. El Paso has a large Hiper Dino supermarket and there is a LIDL store not far away in Los Llanos. The resorts of Puerto Naos and Tazacorte are within 30 minutes drive. the entrance to the spectacular national park is just outside El Paso.”

It enjoyed lovely views both down to the coast and to the mountains. Our bed had a new mattress and was very comfortable. The shower was hot and pressure fine. Marina was very helpful. An iron, ironing board and pegs were provided when asked. Neither the washer or the oven worked but we were able to use the washer in the laundry and a replacement mobile oven was supplied.”
