“My wife and I spent two nights at Hotel II Castello in the scenic town of Certaldo Alto. I very rarely write a review but felt compelled to given the exceptional level of service we experienced. Three key features make this the ideal place to stay. The location; this Medieval historic town has beautiful views and ambience. The hotel; the room is large and clean with a modern en-suite, the Jazz Bar plays tasteful music and offers a good selection of beverages. The service; the people are extremely helpful and friendly, even going as far as to organise an early breakfast for our early departure. We look forward to returning to Certaldo Alto and staying at this hotel again.”

“choice of extra pillows, blankets available in wardrobe-instant hot water -very clean.an excellent small double mattress in my single room. Mr Gori , the owner , was extremely helpful . You will need a few words of Italian . I parked and used the nearby train for a visit to Florence and used my car for Siena,Volterra and San Gimignano. Certaldo Alto ( 5 mins walk to funicular ) is charming and excellent for evening meal/drinks.The breakfast voucher system for a choice of 3 local cafes suited me well . Up and out at 6.45 when I needed to be on the road. Overall one of the most pleasant places I have used in 40 years of single travel in Italy. Please note -you need to inform Mr Gori what time you plan to arrive.”

“The apartment is new, very clean, very well equipped. All you think you need, is there (e.g. even distilled water to pour into the iron). The apartment has no air conditioning, which means that in very hot months you may not be as comfortable as you would want to. There are two fans which work well, we were there during the heat wave- 40 Celsius and up (100 Farenheit amd up) every single day and it wasn't too bad. There is no microwave or electric kettle, not a problem for us, but just so you know. The balcony looks strange in the pictures, but it is actually very usable in the mornings, before the sun reaches it, and in the evenings. The location is good, 10 minutes from train station and 5 minutes from the old town. Certaldo is conveniently located for day trips around Tuscan towns (especially Siena, San Gimignano, but also Pisa, Florence, further out-Lucca). Casa Chiara had free wifi which worked well on android devices, my ipad would not connect (there u go apple lovers, who claim apples are fully compatible with everything :). The flat is on ground floor, but because the building is on a slanted hill you are up one storey from the ground.”

The flat is full of life, real Italian home, it is easy to get to the train station if you need, also it is a short walk uphill to Certaldo alto, small and atmospheric old town with a number of good restaurants. Big supermarket COOP is about a kilometer away from the flat, so that you can buy the food and prepare your own lunch or breakfast, if preferred. Certaldo is almost a middle of Tuscany, so that you can travel in various directions by car or by train. If you need a parking place for the car, there is free parking garage just under the flat building, owned by the hostess. Per me tutto erano perfetto!”

“Altho we had plenty of stairs to climb, we both felt that it was worth it! The apartment was wonderful, the host wonderful, and we enjoyed the festival that took place up in old Certaldo.
