“Nice to stay somewhere unusual. Residents can use Japanese onsen baths and was a great experience. All towels and pyjamas provided which can be worn throughout hotel public areas too. Friendly helpful staff and convenience store right next door. Local bus goes to Noboribetsu outside door in 8 mins, easy to do. Hotel is close to the coast which is nice for a short walk around the area.”

“Haku Hostel was a fabulous find! The owners have made a trendy and peaceful oasis in the small seaside town of Shiraoi - a place with a special Ainu past. The inspired decor of this former ryokan tastefully blends the old with the new. Special design details add to creating the lovely ambience. The cafe area is welcoming with a wood-burning stove and comfy sofa to relax on where I enjoyed a yummy cafe latte after check-in. The bar is well-stocked with craft beers on tap and more which is reason enough to stay several days! On my second day, I had the tasty set lunch in the cafe (green salad with a delicious onion dressing, a dollop of potato salad, a sausage and toast). I recommend staying at Haku if just for the food and drink alone. The hostel part was neat, clean and nicely set up. It is well-thought out with details such as personal lockers, reading lights and extra blankets. All spaces are very secure, as well. Besides all of this, the staff are super. They were so welcoming and helpful. The owners are a wonderful and friendly family with an interesting background who have set up this wonderful hostel for travellers like me to enjoy. A big thank you to them for the experience. Haku is definitely worth a visit for both food/drink and lodging.”
