“We enjoyed our first day very much, especially the cheerfulness of Ms Kumi and Ms Yuka. The room was very well appointed, very clean and with the indoor onsen very nicely put together. That night though, we were awoken by the Saturday Kumamoto earthquake and decided to leave Kyushu the next morning due to the uncertainty of the situation. Ms Kumi was the best thing that happened to us; patiently helping us to book our flights out from Miyazaki, helping to arrange our early car return to Miyazaki and waiving our second night's charges for our room at the Ryokan. She even helped us call forward to the next Ryokan to inform them that we would not be going. She also arranged for our GPS to be programmed for us since the GPS could only be programmed in Japanese. It was fortunate that we were able to converse with Ms Kumi in English due to the many unforeseen arrangements that had to be made. All this with a smile, extreme patience and politeness even though I am sure she must have been very worried about the situation as events unfolded that Saturday. We found out later that she had returned early to the Ryokan when she felt the tremors, and was concerned for their guests. Mr Keiichiro also helped us very much in arranging for us to return our car early and at another drop-off place. The ryokan is fortunate to have such commendable staff, with so much willingness to assist and going beyond their call of duty to assist. We are praying that normalcy will return to the province as soon as possible.”
