When arrived I called the contact person and his colleague was there with the keys in few minutes. Due to its central location one doesn't need a car to discover Niš, just a pair of comfortable shoes + good mood. :) The fortress is very close and next to the fortress there is street where delicious local food can be found - we ate at different places in the city and the quality was high, no "tourist-traps", thankfully.
