First the worm hospitality. We came from Vienna airport with rented cars in horrible conditions and they helped us fix them. Then after breakfast which was very good. They offered to pack all the remains (which was a lot) for later and that was very generous and kind. Great lovely people.

A good-value stopover place to be noted, for it provides very comfortable accommodation - in the room I had, the double bed with its thick mattress and soft topper was one of the best I have ever slept in. The whole room was simply but well-furnished and decorated. Excellent wifi and the street outside is very quiet. Parking was not a problem. As the hotel's name implies, the restaurant offers excellent "Backhendl" - a very tasty chicken cooked in breadcrumbs - an Austrian speciality definitely worth ordering. Friendly service and an easy self check-in procedure (provided you have a smartphone with you).

My kids enjoyed the playground and swimming in the Danube which we heard from a local friend is clean and safe for swimming. There was also enough grassy space for my kids to play frisbee. The biking trails looked nice. Breakfast is included when you stay at the guest house and it was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. We walked to Gasthof Jägerwirt Fam Landerl Komfortzimmer for dinner which we thought was excellent.

Au an der Donau is not too far from Linz, so it’s pretty well connected. The welcome was warm and I enjoyed my night in a barrel (not metaphorical) - the facilities are good and clean (washroom, showers, toilets), the location is quiet and there were quite a lot of other cyclists and caravaners. The property was locked overnight and you can (in theory) leave your bike etc outside in safety. There are a couple of restaurants nearby.

The hotel is very cute and some how quaint. Very large parking area is next to the hotel building. Rooms are cozzy.
