Chris was very quick to respond and sorted all our hiking trips out for us. The shower always had hot water and the room was clean. There was a terrace up top that gave good views of the city and the mountains.

I'm very grateful for choosing to stay at Hostal universal in Huaraz! I highly recommend this place for various reasons. It's conveniently located just blocks away from the city center, and just outside the hostel doors you will find loads of fresh fruits, vegetables, and many local shops! The rooms are very well priced and VERY well maintained, with hot showers, fresh linens, tv's, lots of space, private bathrooms, and they even clean your rooms EVERY day! Although I can attest to the above, what really sold me on this place was the hospitality that I received from Dante & Yovana. It's a family ran business that goes above and beyond to ensure your stay is fantastic. They serve breakfast, and continuously accommodated for me as I often left early to do some trekking. They were even kind enough to allow me to store my bags there during a 4 day trek (secured away) and have a later check out since I was taking a night bus back to Lima. If you're looking for a quiet and friendly place that feels very comfortable, I definitely recommend staying here at Hostal Universal! Melissa and her husband were wonderful hosts, welcoming us onto their property with a tour of the grazing lands behind the hotel, introducing us to all their animals (friendly dogs, llamas, sheep, cattle, chickens, rabbits), and conversing with us throughout the evening. They gave us advice on our trip through Peru and seemed genuinely interested in our travels. The place is beautiful, peaceful, and secluded. They cooked dinner (15 soles, I think) and breakfast for us (2-3 soles pp) and both were delicious with farm fresh eggs.

There’s a living/dining room, a very well equipped kitchen (eg kettle) and a big garden too. There’s a laundry you can use for a very reasonable cost. The room I stayed in had a lot of well thought out storage, natural light and an extremely comfortable bed. Julio is a very considerate host. It’s amazing value for money and I wish I could have stayed longer!

The house was extremely clean, which was very nice. Norma also provided our trekking to Laguna 69 which was super nice. The price/quality expectations were beyond met. It is a nice, quiet residency from where you can go on trips/trekkings well-rested.

The breakfast was delicious, and the cleanliness and service were excellent. The host Ronald and his family are kind and helpful whenever you need anything. There are shops nearby, so it's not inconvenient at all. Staying at this hostel made me fall in love with Huaraz. I would like to return to this place and recommend it to others as well.
