I’ve been travelling solo for nearly 3 months now, staying exclusively in backpacker / hostel accommodation and the YHA at Alice Springs is head and shoulders above anywhere I have stayed. Didn't spot the lockbox at first and had to ask a guest through the secure fencing! I had not read all the info in the long email lower down the page so missed the advice about safe car parking; make sure you pre-arrange this with the hostel as the area immediately outside isn't recommended for overnight cars. Otherwise comfortable rooms, clean well equipped kitchen, nice pool.
