Staff extremely friendly and offered me directions for my planned walking routes the next day. Big building with self catering facilities, plenty of loos and showers. Food (dinner and breakfast) was very nice and in line with other YHA hostels I’ve stayed at. Big spacious lounge with superb views. Good location for hiking.

The location was beautiful! It was across the street from the Greta River and right beside the old rail line that is now a walk/run/bike trail. It is a 5-10 minute walk into the centre of town and just over 10 minutes to Derwent Lake. My bed was in the annex with the main building with all the kitchen/dining area/common room in the neighbour building about 5 metres away. I loved everything!

I was slightly apprehensive about how the stay would be in Covid times but all was good and clean with safety measures in place. Great location for walking. My only negative point would be would be the lack of packed lunches, or just a simple sandwich would have been great. I know the hostel used to provide this service. Apart from that our stay was most enjoyable.
