This guest house is located on the idyllic island of Föglö in the Åland Archipelago. It offers a private beach and a terrace with garden views The guest rooms at Guesthouse Enigheten are housed in buildings dating back to the 1700s. All guest rooms have shared bathroom facilities in a separate building (service house) outside.     “The guesthouse was very close to Föglö centrum and ferry. The host was very friendly and helpful. There is a tiny nature trail in the backyard and in the afternoon you can spot deer on the field next to the yard.”

Property information

Enigheten (The Unity) is a historic guesthouse in the village of Degerby, Föglö. The first guesthouse was built by orders of the Swedish king Gustav Adolf in 1625. The current buildings were constructed in the 18th century after the old guesthouse burnt down. The guesthouse was also used as a place for a court of law for centuries, handling disputes and criminal cases from many of the surrounding islands. The last court convened here in 1944. For some time in the 20th century the place laid barren, until it was given to the local historical society and renovated. In 1985 we opened our doors again. In 2015 we completed the renovation of our own little pier to receive guests and visitors with their own boats. Welcome to stay in this historical environment!

Neighbourhood information

Föglö is a group of interconnected islands in the south-eastern Åland archipelago. It is characterized by its calm and protected waterways and multitude of forested islands and rocky islets. Fishing is a favorite pastime for tourists and locals alike. Asphalted roads run through the whole of Föglö, making it excellent for bicycling. These roads connect the northern port of Överö with the western port village of Degerby. Degerby is the local centre for for service and business, and it's also where you find Guesthouse Enigheten. This village was a fiscal point for customs declaration of imports and exports in the past when an important waterway between Finland and Sweden passed here. Ships would stay anchored for days, waiting for good weather to make the passage to Sweden across the Sea of Åland. Steamers would stop here to take or leave passengers to Sweden and Finland. In short walking distance from Guesthouse Enigheten you'll find the tourist information office, a supermarket with a gas pump, a pub and pizzeria, restaurants and a museum. In biking distance from Guesthouse Enigheten you'll find the wonderful nature of Åland.
