Standing on the present site since around 1480, this building with it's solid stone walls and deep foundations, has certainly stood the test of time. We invite you to share with us the closeness of nature, the peace and tranquility and the beautiful gardens and waterfalls here. Absorb the atmosphere and appreciate the legacy and the lives which have passed this way. ​Two Hoots ( The Barn ) In the barn (Two Hoots) there are two bedrooms downstairs, one with queen bed and one with two single beds. A shower room, separate toilet and hallway are also on this level. On the upper floor which is open-plan, there is a fully fitted kitchen, dining area and lounge with large sofa which is perfect for sleeping should there be an extra person. ​ In this lounge there is also a wood-burning stove with initial supply of logs for any chilly spring or autumn evenings. This upper floor has floor to ceiling windows which on one side overlook the Dure river - watch the brown trout jumping !. Double doors lead from the lounge to decking area and private little patio/garden. ​Enjoy relaxing on your own patio overlooking the river with a glass of our famous local wine
We are 'young at heart' grandparents. ​ Don, from the surfers' paradise of California, and Heather, from Ireland's 'green and pleasant land'. ​ Don will intrigue you with his surfing/diving stories and Heather has lavished her artistic skills in every corner of their home; her paintings, (which are in many countries worldwide), are scattered around the house. ​We both love nature, wildlife, gardens, cooking and relaxing, and never cease to be amazed at the beauty of this place.
The area around our home is totally unspoilt. There are beautiful hidden swimming holes within easy walking distance of the house, and several swimming lakes/pools nearby. Historical Cathar castles to explore, the most famous at 20 minutes away being Carcassonne medieval citadel, La Cité. The countryside of the Languedoc is incredibly diverse with breathtaking views from the mountains and dramatic waterfalls, and then of course, the beautiful Mediterranean vegetation of vines, olive trees and tall cypress trees. Full of impressive beauty, the mill (Le Martinet) and the barn (Two Hoots) sit on an area of 9 acres (4 hectares) of both forest and parkland with the gently flowing River Dure winding around the property. A magical environment, you can explore by bike or on foot. Walking trails, caves, lakes and exciting rivers: *River dipping, cooling down under the waterfall, nearby swimming pools *Mediterranean at one hour's drive *Lac de Cavaillaire at 20 minutes - beautiful beach, swimming and aquapark *Hiking, cycling, canoeing, horse riding nearby *Boat hire, day trips on Canal du Midi! *Famous French markets, Vide Greniers (for the antique hunters)
