The location was excellent, being just a few minutes' walk from the High Street and local buses. The breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. We had 2 evening meals at the hotel restaurant ( The Green Room) and they were outstanding, particularly the locally caught fresh fish.

Colchester is a brilliant town to visit, you have the old and new part to walk round ranging from a good collection of shops and food outlets to browse and walking round the various churches, castle, monastery ruins and lovely parks.
The town is within walking distance of both train stations, taxis are plenty also. Take a good pair of comfy walking attire for feet as you will be walking up and down gradients!! A great place to visit on the local bus is Manningtree where there is a antiques emporium to walk round with a great cafe in the high street for food.
If visiting Colchester for the first time I recommend staying at least a minimum of 4 days as their is a lot to see of interest. Lots of charity shops too!!
For families do visit Colchester Zoo which is a great day out, this can be reached by bus also if you do not drive.

Colchester is a gem.
Colchester is a gem. Lovely architecture and sights, good cafes and pubs, shopping and eateries. It's not at all dog friendly, though, which is a big drawback if you ask me. Come on, Colchester, Britain loves its pets!
Only stayed here for a night, but had a very pleasant experience. The staff were friendly, and the rooms were spacious enough for 2 adults and 1 small child. The breakfast buffet was amazing, with loads of options to choose from and the food was tasty. Only a 10-minute drive from the town centre and the zoo, however, we did have our own car so moving around was easy for us. Recommend this hotel if you need a place to stay, and will definitely be returning whenever we visit Colchester.
Beautiful hotel right in the center of Colchester with very convenient parking right behind the hotel. The hotel was so comfortable and the staff looked after us very well. We would happily stay here again if we ever return to Colchester. A particular special mention for the black guy ( sorry we didn't get your name ) who was very welcoming and made our stay that little bit more special - Thank you. :) Highly recommended Hotel to all visitors to Colchester.
Beautiful old building, we booked to stay here as we were in Colchester for a gig. The four poster bed room was really worth the price. Comfy bed, lovely hotel bar and friendly staff. My partner had a ghostly experience around 6am someone pulled the cover up over him to tuck him in but I was fast asleep. A friendly ghost though. Would definitely book and stay again. 20 min walk from town. This hotel is definitely gonna be a lovely memory with my partner 😌
Charming, Victorian cottage in a quirky village. Equiped with everything we needed and extra touches such as Cava and treats. Enjoyed walking around the village looking at all the different architectural styles. Very convenient to be able to walk along the river path into Colchester and catch bus/train back. Loved the Castle Museum. Train to the coast was great too. Sitting on the patio with a glass of wine at the end of the day.
Beautiful cottage with a unique character. The owner is very kind, friendly and accommodating. The room was charming and clean, and the bed had a lovely heated blanket (a first for me!:)). Had a great night's sleep. The breakfast was also delicious. The location is very close to the city center and Colchester Town train station. Had an absolutely wonderful time here.
The location was the real selling point and the rates were reasonable. There was parking behind the George Hotel at £9.50 for 24hrs which was a good rate. The place was clean and comfortable. If you're looking for a base camp to come back to and you want to be in Central Colchester it's great.
Friendly personnel. The hotel has a very good restaurant (also used for breakfast). Beds were good; clean room. Parking on public road is possible in front of the hotel if there is space (free of charge from 6pm-8am). Location is good to explore Colchester.
Easy check-in across the road at The George Hotel. Great location with easy parking at the NCP a 5 minute walk from the hotel. Very spacious room, great sized TV, with a good bathroom with excellent shower. The bed was comfy and the room was very clean.
Perfect location close to Colchester Town centre. Quiet at night.
Had adequate facilities. Very clean. Spacious living area with dining table. Would highly recommend and would book again.
We have stayed before and it is a lovely hotel in great location in centre of Colchester. The staff are always welcoming and friendly and the food in the restaurant is excellent
we’ve stayed here a few times. It is a jewel. It is by far the cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in and the standard is always exactly the same. Perfect and pristine.
