Gareth
Maenllwyd is an imposing former vicarage built in the 1800's. Gareth (the current owner) was brought up in the house and he took over the guest house from his parents in 2009. The house is surrounded by a beautiful large garden which now has a newly added decking area with seating for guests to enjoy when the sun comes out. All rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and a private en-suite bathroom with shower. The generously sized rooms all offer flat screen TV, hairdryer, fresh towels and complimentary toiletries. Breakfast is included in the room rate and free wi-fi and parking are also available. It is 5 min walk from the centre of Machynlleth with its historic past for you to explore.
Machynlleth is steeped in history and is often described as the original capital of Wales, the details of which can be discovered in the town's Owain Glyndwr Centre. The town has a Farmers Market every Wednesday which is popular with both locals and visitors alike and now has several antique and curiosity style shops which add to its character. The Museum of Modern Art Wales (MOMA) houses a superb permanent collection and its Tabernacle buildings provide a venue for numerous festivals, including the Machynlleth Music Festival in late August and Machynlleth Comedy Festival which is held over the May bank holiday. The Centre for Alternative Technology Centre (CAT) renowned for promoting ecological technology is extremely popular amongst visitors both as an inspiring educational resource and as a fun day out and just up the road from CAT is King Arthurs Labyrinth, Corris Mine Explorers and Corris Craft Centre. The town has a leisure centre with pool slide and various other facilities and nearby is the Plas the former home of the Marquess of Londonderry which has a lovely café and children's playground just next door. There are several places to eat in Machynlleth including pubs and hotels such as the Skinners Arms, Wynnstay Hotel and White Lion Hotel and Number 21 a boutique bistro also several cafes including The Rendevous, Chimes and Maengwyn Cafe all of which are central to the town. The nearby Dyfi Osprey Project and the RSPB Reserve and Visitor Centre at Ynyshir which featured for three consecutive years on Spring Watch is perfect for bird watching enthusiasts. Finally Machynlleth is a hub for visitors with a passion for the outdoors. Located on both the Glyndwr's Way National Trail and the Wales Coast Path, as well as numerous 'Dyfi Discovery' short walks, the area is great location for walking and cycling. So whatever your reason for visiting the town there is sure to be something for everyone to enjoy.
