We are Steve and Denise and before moving to Whitby lived in the Scottish Highlands. We lived on a croft and enjoyed the freedom of being able to grow our own fruit and veg, run free range chickens, ducks and geese and had a small number of sheep. We were able to use our home grown/laid produce to make our own jams, pickles, marmalade and cakes. We had a boat that enabled us to get out on to the loch that was at the bottom of our croft for a spot of fishing. We are continuing to grow soft fruits so we can offer home made jams and marmalades to compliment our cooked breakfasts and our love of baking means theres always fresh cake available.
Whitby is a busy seaside resort all year round. Many visitors come for the famous 199 steps and Abbey but it is also home to numerous events, two goth weekends ,Bram Stoker festivals, folk weeks,Northern soul weekends,1940s weekends to name but a few. The busy pubs often have live musicians and pub quizzes. There are two very informative museums, one being The James Cook museum and the other situated in the beautiful Pannett park. We are very lucky to be surrounded by the Yorkshire Moors, quaint villages including Goathland from Heartbeat fame, some stunning scenery,National trust and English Heritage properties and lovely walks to suit all tastes. The Cleveland way is a glorious coastal walk that in total extends 109 miles, it can be picked up in Whitby however and the walk can be adapted to suit personal abilities. We also have the cinder track several hundred yards from us,a long abandoned rail track that is now extremely popular with walkers and cyclists alike, a two hour walk will take you to Robin Hoods bay or for the more adventurous there is always Scarborough. We are also on the main bus routes for Scarborough,York and Middlesbrough.
