'Elsie' is a 1964 Castleton Rovana 4 berth caravan who has been in our family for the last ten years. During this time she has undergone a sympathetic renovation and has been updated to comply with modern safety standards. She offers quirky 60's style self catering accommodation all year round for two adults and up to two children, having a double bed plus a single and a bunk (max 40kg on the top bunk). She is available to hire from May until August each year, off grid at Pen Y Graig Farm, (no mains electric) with a gas hob and grill , solar powered lights, a 35 litre electric coolbox, a cassette toilet and an outdoor shower, so is ideal to really get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are facilities to charge mobile phones, so you're not out of touch with the modern world (unless you want to be!). Elsie has an awning and a table and chairs for outside dining or simply enjoying the views out over the mountains and valleys. Dogs are welcome but must be under control and safe with sheep and cattle. There is a firepit at the caravan for evening fires. Public transport is not available to site but we have a local taxi service happy to transport guests to and from the caravan.
Clare (the owner of Elsie) and Sandy and Kristine who run Pen Y Graig Farm look forward to welcoming you to this beautiful location. They can also sell firewood and eggs if needed during your stay. When your booking is confirmed I will email you with directions and welcome instructions. If you have any problems I (Clare) am happy to help (I live half an hour away) - just give me a call.
There are walks and cycling available starting on the farm. The Sugarloaf Mountain is within walking distance and the thriving market town of Abergavenny is a 15 minute drive away. There are many award winning places to dine and attractions in the local area, including the Sugarloaf Vineyards at the bottom of the mountain, the Dragon ant Llangenny and the Clytha Arms. Locally, we enjoy hosting the Steam Rally every May, the Abergavenny Food Festival in September and of course the Green Man festival in August, plus the Hay Festival of Literature, the Crickhowell Walking Festival... there is even a combined Shire Horse and Miniature Pony event which is a delight to see.
