Ty Capel Studio is the first floor of what was originally the caretaker's cottage for the adjoining chapel, where the hosts now live. Situated in the tiny village of Darowen, approximately 6 miles east of Machynlleth, this delightful open plan holiday apartment first opened in 2018. Though small, the apartment provides guests with all they need for a relaxing holiday. The private entrance is accessed through the shared garden. Stairs lead up to the apartment, which features a small kitchenette, bed/sitting room, shower room, and separate WC/washroom. The south facing garden has fabulous views overlooking the hills of the Pumlumon Massif in the Cambrian Mountains. Our guests are also free to explore the rest of the chapel garden, with a few more seating and viewing options. We have off road parking, and secure storage is available for bicycles. Near to Wales' old capital, Machynlleth, and a short walk from Glyndwr's Way, it's ideally placed for walkers, days out in Snowdonia, trips to the coast, or discovering the Cambrians. We are Marion & Alex Burnham and we own and live at Ty Capel with our little dog Ivy. We moved to Wales in late 2015 to spend more time enjoying the great wild places we love. We decided we'd like to share our space with others so they can also experience this wonderful area of mid Wales. We'd never rented out holiday property before, but we know what we like to find when we go away, and we've tried to make it a place we'd love to stay. We hope you love this place as much as we do. We give our guests as much privacy as they desire; some folks like a good chat, others would rather be left alone, and we'll act according to your desires - this is your holiday! The apartment shares the garden space with the old chapel where we live, and sometimes our friendly little dog might be out there too. If you're not enamoured by dogs we'll do our best to keep her away from you if we know you're around. You're welcome to use the garden with its various seats, including our lovely new swing, and we now have a fire pit available too.
Darowen is a tiny village of some 20 homes and outlying farms, sitting on a short ridge between two hills. It is within a UNESCO recognised area called the Dyfi Biosphere. All roads leading to Darowen are narrow and up hill! The local community is chiefly made up of local farming families, and English incomers like us who love the gorgeous views. Everyone is friendly, with several homes in the village welcoming holiday guests. Darowen has long since lost its last pub and shop, but there's still a good community here, and when circumstances allow we like to meet up in each others homes for a good natter! Our nearest pub is the Dovey Valley Hotel at Cemaes Road which does excellent food in the summer months. Most of the larger villages have a pub or two, and Machynlleth also has several pubs and restaurants offering great food. We're half hour or so from the amazing beaches at Aberdyfi (pron. Abber Dovey) and Borth, and the fabulous nature reserves at Ynys Hir, Cors Dyfi, and Ynyslas Dunes. Local attractions include the Centre for Alternative Technology, Coris mines, and the little railways at Talyllyn, Cwm Rheidol, and Coris.
