The name “Barbarossa Suites” refers to one of many stories about the famous pirate Barbarossa, a Greek seaman who lived in the XVI century, Hayreddin. He was enrolled in the Ottoman Fleet and made Pasha by the Sultan for the key role he played in the battles for the control of the Aegean Sea. According to a legend the rock of Emporio was a hideout of Barbarossa and the ruins of the Turkish fortress , which still remains in the village, are seen as proof of his presence in the island. As a matter of fact the oldest part of the village on the top af a hill who dominates the sea – where the “Suites “ are located – with its narrow winding alleysways , the little white roads which have dead ends to confuse the enemy, where one can go only on foot , like in a casbah, look like the ideal hideout for pirates. The “Suites “, whose terraces are in descending order from the top of the hill , are composed of three apartments with indipendent entrances and a private parking.
