Really loved staying at this place! The host, Herdís, is so nice and welcoming, and knows everything there is to know about Reykjavik. Her house - or Casa – is full of cool history and Herdís has big plans for the future! Would absolutely stay...

Dísa greeted us very warmly, took us to our room and showed us the house, which turned out to be very beautiful and cozy. The house had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The house is warm, quiet and cozy, next to a beautiful park.

Dísa (Herdís Anna Thorvaldsdóttir)
The house has been completely renovated with tasteful loyalty to its original design and influence from the era its built in and the heritage of the people that built it. All spaces have different colours that are neatly toned in harmony but create a playful touch of the fifties. The floor is set with light oak and marble tiles. The decor is a mix of paintings from some of the old Icelandic artists, mandalas from Nepal, antiques from China and other more modern artists and stuff that pleases the eye. The original owners were a couple borne in 1920. Both well educated and entrepreneurially minded. He was a pharmacist, had a pharmacy down town and a chocolate factory called Amor producing handmade quality chocolate. He produced some of his goods on the ground floor, She was also in the health industry but with a slightly different approach being one of the first yoga teacher in Iceland. She founded a yoga centre and later a health hotel with her friends. She also thought yoga in this house, her home, until the age of almost eighty years old and she even thought yoga to the president of Iceland at that time, Ms. Vigdís Finnbogadóttir who was the first female president in the world
I am an outgoing, optimistic, independent Icelandic woman. I am socially and politically active. l climb mountains, practice yoga and swim in the freezing Atlantic Ocean. I have been in various fields of tourism for the last 15 years. I love sharing my home, my design and my realisation of my nation’s and country’s enjoyable features with those that are curious to know.
The Laugardalur area, postcode 104 Reykjavík is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Reykjavik. It offers a great variety of services within walking range and boasts a positive vibe and a friendly culture nurtured by the proximity to the Laugardalur valley with all it’s nature, art and recreational possibilities. It is a quiet neighbourhood but conveniently close to the Reykjavík city centre and all the main business districts without being completely congested with traffic. The neighbourhood is family oriented and offers lots of activities and recreational options but not the nightlife, the touristic shops and restaurants that fill the centre. Still there is the local pub for watching the game and many restaurants to enjoy.
