Situated near Cortona, Casale Lombriciano is set within Casali di Montecchio, a lovely complex comprising five houses surrounding an old villa (itself subdivided into several double- or triple-level units). Each one is surrounded by its own sizable private garden to relax in, along with its gazebo ideally suited to “alfresco” lunch and dining. The large 20-metre swimming pool, with a beautiful view of Cortona, is shared. The single-level, air-conditioned house offers a high quality interior, furniture and furnishings, including antiques and original art work; there’s a small but substantial library featuring art books and guides primarily in French, English and Italian.
We strive to make our house guest-friendly. It should be noted that this is not an impersonal setting, a standard guest house dedicated to summer rentals: for two decades, it has been a country retreat for our family, hence its definite individuality and personal significance (we do not, however, leave our family photos lying around or our toothbrushes, for that matter!). Families are most welcome, including children to the extent that they are dependably respectful of their environment (the house is not suitable as a playground!).
The property is located at the meeting point between the regions of Tuscany and Umbria, at a short distance from Siena, Perugia, Montepulciano, Orvieto, Arezzo, and a great many other first rate destinations. Lake Trasimeno is minutes away; it is a destination kids especially enjoy. Lively Cortona itself, perched on a hill and surrounded by its ancient Etruscan wall, is well worth the trip. The area proposes a wealth of arts and cultural events, during the summer especially: exhibitions, concerts, and many typical “sagras” – these are fun, local food festivals.
