We especially liked the friendliness of the staff, everybody was ever so nice, they had a lot of useful information about the area, places to visit, restaurant recommendations etc. We had a very spacious suite wich came with a beautiful modern bathroom. During our last visit in Matera we stayed in a cave hotel where our room was humid and cold. We therefore opted for a comfortable hotel room with a well working central heating. Everything was impeccably clean. The breakfast had a very good choice of sweet and savoury items. We did not have the time to use the spa facilities, but maybe another time. The hotel has a parking just outside in the courtyard and two elevators for easy luggage transport. This would certainly be the hotel of our choice for a next visit to Matera.

Surrounded by the unspoilt landscape of the Murgia Materana Nature Park, Hotel Cave del Sole is just outside Matera's historic centre. It offers en suite accommodation with free Wi-Fi, air conditioning and a flat-screen TV. The rooms have a modern décor with minimalist furniture. Some have a kitchenette. The apartments are 10 metres away and are complete with a kitchenette. Local produce including freshly baked bread and fresh fruit is served at the buffet breakfast. This can be enjoyed in the bright breakfast room overlooking the garden. Cave del Sole provides free parking and is 2 km from the Matera Sassi UNESCO site. The surrounding area is known for its 18th-century quarries and nature.
Couples particularly like the location — they rated it 8.5 for a two-person trip.
