The Fienile villa cottage is the result of a painstaking barn conversion, as it was considered a "heritage" structure, and every aperture had to be maintained with its original dimensions. Merging traditional architecture with modern design, the Fienile features rge, with wooden beams in all rooms (even bathrooms!) and a barrel-vaulted brick ceiling in the kitchen. The entrance to the kitchen is framed by 15th-century columns, recycled from a palace in San Giovanni Valdarno. Furnished with antiques, original prints (16th-20th centuries), and featuring with two sitting/living rooms, the Fienile is equipped with all necessary bed and bath linens, and a kitchen to really cook in.: the Fienile villa cottage is a "real" home. The house is entirely independent, on two floors, with windows giving out onto the gardens and views of the Chianti hills and the Valdarno. For those of you who suffer from allergies to animals, dust and molds, rest reassured that Il Poggiolo provides ALLERGY SENSITIVE ACCOMMODATIONS (no pet policy & low allergen interiors).

Your Fienile hosts are both historians of medieval and Renaissance Italy, and live on site at Il Poggiolo Tuscany. We have been hosting since 2006, and enjoy having our guests discover the Valdarno, its wonderful food and heritage wines, and especially its lovely people. Guests should not hesitate to ask for restaurant suggestions, for special places to see that are off the beaten path, or about our favorite walks (some start right at our doorstep).

The landscape is divine (don't miss the panoramic walk on the dirt road to Mercatale Valdarno). The medieval Torre di Galatrona can be seen from the house and is open on weekends (4.5 km walk or just drive). Every town in the Valdarno has a charming museum (my favorite is the Museo della Basilica in San Giovanni - a breathtaking Annunciation by Fra Angelico!). The towns are charming, there are good restaurants and pizzerie in each town, and all the major sites are just a day trip away! And if you are tired of driving, take the train in Montevarchi-Terranuova to Florence, Arezzo, Cortona, Assisi, Lucca Pisa, etc....
