San Bartolomeo II° "La Loggetta" is an old renovated farmhouse at 3 Km from the historic centre of Montepulciano, along the old road to Monticchiello (Pienza), surrounded by extensive grounds with olive trees, cypresses, thichets and meadows overlooking the Val d'Orcia landscape. The apartement "La Loggetta" (70 square metres) is located on the first floor, where was the old peasant, with wooden beams and a characteristic fireplace. From the smoll entrance porch you can see beautifull sunsets, the Villa Trecci's Park and the medieval church of St. Bartholomew; in the distance, the renaissance architecture of Montepulciano. After the veranda, equipped with a smoll table, there are a large living room with corner-kitchenette, a double bedroom (overlooking te Temple of San Biagio), a dressing room and a bathroom with shower. The décor is made warm and valued by several nineteenth-century furniture, paintings and selected objects.

Hi, it's Marcella, I take care of the apartment "La Loggetta". I am now retired, but I was a journalist, a counselor in a public vocational guidance center for women, in charge of the Valdichiana public employment centers, Eures consultant. I like to know places and people, I love nature, countryside, plants, food, history, politics, mushrooms, wild herbs, rocks .... With my husband we renovated the house at the end of the 80s, together we take care of the garden and of the olive grove.

Montepulciano has Etruscan origins . It reached the height of its splendour in the 16th century when it became part of the Medici Signoria. Very important architects have left splendid examples of the canons of Renaissance aesthetics. Works by Antonio da Sangallo il Vecchio are the town walls, Porta al Prato, PalazzoTarugi, Palazzo Contucci in the main square Piazza Grande and the wonderful temple San Biagio, one of the Renaissance's masterpieces. Works by Michelozzo: the new facade of the ancient Palazzo Comunale (which reminds us the townhall in Florence) and that one of S. Agostino cherch. Vignola designed Palazzo Avignonesi and Le Logge del Grano. Montepulciano is well known as an important wine-producing area. The most famous wine is the "Nobile", DOCG, aged 3 years in oak barrels.You can taste it with the delicious dishes of local gastronomy. From my house you can go around for severals walks, as far as Monticchiello, or go to swiming in one of several thermal swiming pools (Bagno Vignoni, Bagni San Filippo, San Casciano dei Bagni, Chianciano) or visit Pienza and the Valdorcia's Artistic and natural park, a world heritage site, at 10 km from Montepulciano. From here you can also have a one day trip to Firenze or Roma, Perugia-Assisi, or to Mar Tirreno coast.
