A modern air conditioned purpose built home. There are 2 guest suites each with a private ensuite. The bedrooms are large and comfortable with chairs and tea/coffee making facility. Each bedroom opens to a reception area where guests can relax or go out to explore the garden. There are several garden areas to select from to watch the sky divers, view the stars, read a book or just do nothing, Stay Taupo is just 8 minutes walk to the lake for a pleasant evening stroll. Exclusive to Stay Taupo is our BBQ basket for guests to enjoy cooking their very own South Island fillet steak with a bottle of New Zealand's fine wine (along with delicious local produce). Pre-ordering for this is necessary and is in addition to the tariff. Alternatively it is a comfortable walk to the Ploughmans or Sailing Club for a meal. Guests in Taupo for special sporting events should email us so we can help with their particular needs. We provide safe storage for sporting equipment.

In 2018 we moved from Palmerston North where we operated our 9.8 guest reviewed Bed & Breakfast, @Riverhills, for some 10 years. With this experience behind us we designed Stay Taupo to provide the best of hosted accommodation with separate facilities for guests while being just a bell ring away for assistance, advice, suggestions or conversation. In 2010 Ken & Marie spent several years working as servants in the UK and South of France which we thoroughly enjoyed and gave us insights into different ways of life.

This is a new housing development typical of what you would find throughout New Zealand. Many of the properties are still having gardens developed. Although we do not have direct views of the lake we do see the city lights at night and have views of Mt Tauhara. Because we are on the edge of the town we are afforded spectacular night skies. It is advantageous not to be close to the lake as it avoids the sandflies and the cold wind. We are however a comfortable 8 minute stroll down to the lake for a swim in summer or just a picturesque walk on the lakefront. Just 5 minutes by car will take you to thermal pools. There are numerous activities to choose from in Taupo suitable for all ages and abilities and it needs a full day to explore and enjoy this stunning part of New Zealand with its lake and mountains.
