Here in the lush Waiakea Heights, we're almost at the end of the road, on the southern edge of Hilo, toward the zoo. This is a quiet neighborhood, at the edge of the rainforest, where we are embraced by the huge, graceful albisia trees. Our delicious tap water comes from a nearby watershed on the slopes of Mauna Loa. The Sanctuary is safe and secure and you can enjoy walking along the street during the day and even at night. There are no street lights, so the view of the night sky is spectacular. It's like living out in the country. We're centrally located, in a triangle, just 15 minutes from the Airport and from Target, and 15 minutes from Rainbow Falls, or Carlsmith Beach, where you can hang out with the giant turtles. We're 20 minutes from great snorkeling at Richardson Beach, or surfing at Honoli'i Beach Park. We're also 15 minutes from central Hilo, with lots of good restaurants, bars, shops and galleries. And 45 minutes from Volcano, where you can watch the lava flow at the caldera, and 45 minutes from the telescopes on Mauna Kea
