Wonderful apartment over the trees. The owner's great hospitality was only topped by the astonishing view and the beautiful nature surrounding the hut on poles. We will definitely come back for more time in this lovely place!

Mudhouse Zululand is a recently renovated chalet in Hluhluwe, where guests can make the most of its garden and terrace. Solar-powered tree-top cabin. Listen to the sounds of the hippos and hyenas at night and enjoy the company of giraffes and zebras during the day. You will stay in the middle of nature, it is still a 10 minute drive from the main entrance gate of the nature reserve, you will probably pass African savannah animals, so no punishment at all. The roads within the reserve are unpaved and adventures and a high clearance or 4x4 car is a big advantage. Low cars might struggle with the higher middle part of the road. If you have a high clearance or 4x4 car, we definitely recommend bringing it. If it rains a lot then the roads become a bit of a challenge (Nov/Dec/Jan / Feb/March and sometimes April), if necessary we are there to help. Travel times (approximately): Durban airport 3 hours Johannesburg airport 6.5 hours Zulu croc (food and drink) 10 minutes Delish (food and drink) 15 minutes Hluhluwe (shops) 20 minutes Hluhluwe park (big 5) 30 minutes Mkuze park (big 5) 60 minutes Sondwana bay (beach) 75 minutes Check in time 14.00>19.00. Set in a protected conservation area (non-big 5). With endless views over the South African bush where elephants and lions roam. This FULLY self-catering treetop hut is private, comfortable, quirky and fun. It does not pretend to be a five-star hotel. Please note that we host privately, we do not stock food, drinks, wood or charcoal and it's not possible for us to arrange candlelight dinners and special room set ups. Unfortunately our modest solar system doesn't support toasters, microwave's or hairdryers. If you'r ready to "by into" an off-grid and "back to basic" lifestyle and if you want to disconnect and enjoy nature, we are very happy to welcome you! We will try to make your stay as pleasant as possible.
We are Martijn and Bernadette, both Dutch, loving life, nature and Zululand. After traveling around and living on two continents we ended up at this perfect spot. We are passionate about living and building off-grid, sustainable and responsible. We are building an earth-bag house, and although its not finished, we do live in it and loving the feel of it. Living in nature and having the wild animals around us every day is a a privilege and we love to share it with people that like to buy into the life style. It is great to be able to share our slice of heaven with people that love being in the outdoors and enjoy an adventures and simple accommodation.
