Sherrene & Roy: We have both been in the complementary health sector working one on one with clients for years. Seeing the need to connect to more than one person at a time we chose to relocate to Clarens to set up the Retreat. We cater for visitors & tourists needing holiday accommodation whilst visiting Clarens, or a quick stop-over for business travelers, as well as those attending seminars, workshops and functions being held here. Passionate about uplifting humanity & constantly researching new technologies regarding a holistic approach to being the best we can be, our goal is to conduct workshops at Woodlands Retreat, empowering guests to change their lives in any way they choose. It is now time to choose to move out of the victim role into co-creation and we have the tools to show our workshop attendees how. We look forward to meeting you!!

Property information

Woodlands Retreat is situated in the peaceful Swartland area of central Clarens, in the protective arms of the Rooiberge Mountain Range. Backed up to the southeast by the mighty purple/blue Maluti Mountains. Apparently this property was part of a vlei covered in water, which the original farmer/owner drained and reclaimed. Now a tranquil Retreat nestled in a lush garden, amongst woodland trees & surrounded by the inspiring layers of multi-coloured sandstone mountain landscape, for which Clarens is renowned. Woodlands Retreat is a secluded, peaceful venue ideal for rest & relaxation and, is an easy 3-minute gentle drive (+-13-minute walk) to Central Clarens. Here you can re-connect with the soothing rhythms of nature, watch a variety of birds frequenting the garden & wander around the meandering pathways, discovering what is hidden around the next corner. Woodlands Retreat is a Loving work in progress endeavouring to create an eco-friendly, organic environment. All the water used on the property is filtered, both indoors & out. We only use bio-degradable cleaning agents & we are composting & mulching the garden every opportunity we get & harvesting rain Water.

Neighbourhood information

Clarens being part of the scenic Highlands Route ensures that we are conveniently situated being a short hop for a weekend getaway (+- midway between Johannesburg & Durban & equidistant from Bloemfontein), also conveniently situated on the main Cape Town Johannesburg route. Clarens is endowed with more trees than most other Free State towns. The different seasons present unforgettable sights as the leaves change colour from light green Willows in spring to the magnificent vibrant autumn shades of the Lombard Poplars, Chinese Maples & Elms to name a few. The abundance of spring blossoms are breath-taking. All these attract artists, photographers & nature lovers. Clarens has many fine dining & wining establishments along with a Craft Brewery making delicious brews & various delightful shops. Clarens is also called the Adventure Capital of the Free State because of the wide range of sporting & outdoor activities within easy reach, eg White Water Rafting, Abseiling, Mountain Climbing, Quad Biking, Hot Air Ballooning etc. The Golden Gate National Park is about 20km away & makes for a lovely day trip with magnificent views, rare bird sightings & other African wildlife.
