Chester Cathedral

Towering in all its Benedictine splendour, this Saxon church is dedicated to St Werburgh and dates from the 12th century, having survived the English Reformation. An amazing building.

An amazing building. Great tranquillity away from its busier days and times. Good place to pause and reflect - away from the many temples and stalls of Mammon!! Loved attending Choral Evensong (with visiting choir) and a couple of secular concerts - all atmospheric.

A need to visit and have a slow walk around. No charge to see the inside, but spend a pound and add a LEGO brick to the model of the Cathedral. Something to remember as a fantastic model to view. Also go see the LEGO marine expo. Pay and enjoy as it is well worth it.

"Free entry" was advertised but at each door there was a member of staff requesting a "minimum donation of £6 per person". Whilst I appreciate these places require constant and expensive upkeep I am prepared to pay entrance fees or give a donation but object to being pressured in this way so I did not enter the cathedral.

We did the 60 minute tour.

We did the 60 minute tour. I've visited many, many cathedrals in the uk but this was probably the most disappointing I've been to- there was no mention of famous people buried there, very few anadotes. Lots of Victorian additions and a good vantage point to see around Chester. Our tour was very rudely stopped in its tracks by a visiting choir from Washington who obviously took priority over our group and the guide.

Beautiful place if you like that sort of thing.

Beautiful place if you like that sort of thing. Great for photography if you go when the light is right. There are no restrictions on taking photos, which is a bonus. No entry fee but a donation is requested and I feel that it is worth it. So much to see. Guides very friendly and informative. Recommended

The tower tour is definitely worth the £8, but be warned there are over 200 steps to climb and some very tight spaces to get through, well worth it for the view at the top though. If heights aren’t your thing, then the free tours of the ground floor of the Cathedral is definitely worth the hour or so of your time. Our guide Ken was very knowledgeable and very enthusiastic about the history and architecture of the Cathedral. The Cathedral refectory does very nice tea and cakes.

Location was convenient for the Graduation Ceremony at Chester Cathedral. Although pricing on higher level the reception and catering / bar staff were exceptionally good.
