You can walk here from Sighnaghi and it is a delightful walk...
You can walk here from Sighnaghi and it is a delightful walk. The area is guarded by dour looking nuns, clutching rosaries who demand that if you are a man you must take off your hat and if you are a woman you must put on your hat. Many tourists and tour buses come here to see supplicants crossing themselves, they then kiss the walls of the monastery and where they planted a kiss they then smash their heads against the wall. This is because God told them to do this I'm sure.. The area is well manicured and nicely taken care of by same dour looking nuns who walk around listening for orders from God.

It is very special to visit the burial place of St.
It is very special to visit the burial place of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to this area in the 4th century. The adjoining new, big church is almost offensive in its size and grandeur, compared to the simple life of St. Nino.
