Skaros
Skaros Rock juts up over a curious patch of land, up towards the sky. Once a fortress, and the island’s capital, the uniquely formed peninsula hasn’t escaped the damage inflicted by earthquakes. The result is a craggy form with an unobstructed lookout that‘s arguably the best of the whole caldera. Follow the path to the rock’s tip to see the orange-tinged sky dissolve into a twilight abyss.

This was definitely a highlight of my trip while in Santorini.
The walk to remains of an old fortress called Skaros is not overly difficult, but if you decide to climb it, you will actually need to climb hands and feet at 90 Degree angles to get to the top of the rock and this can get a little bit tricky. Wear proper footwear and you’ll be fine.
There is a pile of rocks forming an arch you have to climb up to get to the very top. The effort of getting to the top is well worth it, with great views in all directions. Take care on top, however, as there are some holes in the ground dropping into what must be the cellars of old buildings. I enjoyed it so much I climbed it twice and would do it every day if I stayed longer. I even had the whole top completely to myself for quite a while enjoying the most beautiful sunset.
There is also a narrow rocky bridge that divides the front part of the rock and I would not recommended if you are not 100% confident. I crawled over, but only because I do this a lot on my travels and felt confident. This is not for social media snap, this is me challenging myself as I have a huge love for climbing. It is not for everyone and do think before you decide to go for it. Enjoy and stay safe:)

The footpath around the tip of the rock is very good and easy to walk, but getting to the very top is by pure rock climbing, and frankly you don’t see anything different to what you have already seen when walking just underneath it.
If you really want to go for it, avoid light dresses and flip-flops, you will struggle, trainers and shorts will serve you much better.
I would recommend that instead of exhausting yourself conquering that rock and breaking all your nails in the process, you continue following the path to the opposite side and finding a magnificent little church, hidden from the view of the main island. It is absolutely worth going down to see it, not the same as just looking from above. Very atmospheric and breathtakingly beautiful when you get there!

By far the most amazing hotel in Imerovigli, and in my opinion in the whole island of Santorini. I have been to Santorini multiple times in the past few years and I have stayed in different hotels but nothing can compare to this hotel! The view is amazing, you have a panoramic view of Santorini from Akrotiri to Oia and of course the amazing Skaros rock. The area feels very secluded/private and away from the crowds. Honestly words can't make this hotel justice, you really need to experience it. I will definitely come back!
Little touches you’d expect from a high end hotel like complementary fruit and drink, water in a Sophia brand bottle, bath slippers, robes, spare blankets and a fridge/freezer.
Lovely view from the room - skaros rock, neighbouring islands, sea and sunset.
Good breakfast but limited savoury vegetarian options (other than eggs/omelette)
Staff are all extremely polite and helpful.
Yannis and all of the staff at the hotel were brilliant! They were quick to answer any questions/queries and nothing was too much trouble! Room was spacious and comfortable and had everything you needed. Hotel was located within 2 minutes walk of a local shop, bus stop and taxi rank and less than 5 minutes walk from the infamous Caldera views and Skaros Rock.
The best possible view in Santorini: Caldera, Skaros Rock, Oia, Sunset ... all in front of you.
I had a minor accident and needed medical help. Yiannis drove me to the hospital and waited for me and drove me back to the hotel ... in the evening outside the business hours.
Located in heart of Imerovigli. Calm and beautiful area with some shops and restaurants around. Breakfast was extremely good and served in room/balcony. Great views, lots of privacy. If you like nature, walking trail to Oia and Fira accessible easily. Skaros rock is a must to go indulge on a sunset. Would recommend to anyone looking for a calm area to stay.
This apartment will always mean something special for me, since my girlfriend became a fiancée in the 3 days we spent there. We really enjoyed our stay, the staff was very kind and welcomed us with local wine a snacks. The breakfast was also great, everyday something new and local. A fantastic volcano view in front of Skaros Rock, overall you can see a big part of the caldera from Oia to Akrotiri. The apartment is well equipped and great for couples. I highly recommend it, we plan to come back as well!
+beautiful new hotel, very well equipped
+location / by walk close to restaurants (recomended lets eat gyros/suvlaki), fira, skaros rock, shop
+ parking 3-4min from hotel
+ staff
+ brakfast OMG!!! was a culinary experience
+ suprise in the room (bottle of wine)
The hotel has very good location providing wide Caldera view, easy access to Skaros Rock. There are plenty of restaurants around and a couple of markets. The breakfast provides reasonable selection of food and beverages. The room I had was comfortably big. The private jacuzzi outside was also big, however water was a bit cold.
My stay at Thea Apartments was simply exceptional. To start, the caldera view is absolutely amazing! At Thea apartments, you are looking straight over Skaros rock and have a view over the entire caldera, including the sunsets. The hosts are wonderful people, authentic Greek hospitality. Especially many thanks to Maria who was very nice and accomodating and did everything to arrange things upon request. The room was clean and was being cleaned daily and the breakfast was something you would look forward to every morning. Thanks a lot!
We came here for 4 nights for our honeymoon and been upgraded for the first night which was super cool from them. The rooms are super clean with an amazing view on Caldera and Skaros rock. The best spot on the island for Sunset for sure. The staff were very friendly especially Mikis and his mom Georgia. If we have to come back with family in the future we will definitely seek for Annio Hotel. Kudos guys and all the best from Soleil and Chris.
