Located in Dambulla in the Matale District region, with Popham's Arboretum nearby, Kandalama Lodge provides accommodation with free WiFi and free private parking, as well as access to an indoor swimming pool. It was very spacious and comfortable. A bit far from the main attractions but totally worth it. Very good breakfast, also possibility for sri lankan breakfast. The tuktuk service was priced well and the staff was very good. Super good and cheap restaurant nearby for amazing dahl (home kitchen dambulla).

Gayani and Neil were exceptional hosts - they helped us arrange private cars to visit Sigiriya, Polonnawura and Pidurangala, as well as a transfer from Dambulla to Kandy. The breakfast was delicious and prepared for whatever time we requested. Dinner is also available and is very tasty! The property is great value for money and even though it's on a main road and I could hear traffic from the room this didn't prevent me from sleeping. The property also has items for sale such as water and clothing appropriate for visiting temples. The pool is also very clean. Overall I would recommend this property as a good base for visiting nearby attractions/cities.

Sri Dalada Maligawa is 29 km from the lodge, while Kandy Museum is 29 km away. I give a 10 not for the accommodation, which was really simple, but for the real and raw experience of living a couple of days together with Niro, Umanga and their family. We saw the beautiful sides as their hospitality, the stunning nature, good organic food. But we also saw the struggle and need for financial support as they lost their original land (some photos are still from the old land) and termites are breaking their home. They have good intentions, trying not only to help themselves, but having worked together with the school in the village and helped people build their homes. Right now they need help on their own home. So if you'd like to get to know them and support them, come and check out their place.

Incredibly kind family owners-I arrived super early having cycled there, they served me a delicious breakfast and got my room ready ASAP. Location is fab-you can enter Sigiriya rock via a back entrance (but it might be worth getting your entry ticket on your way to hotel as its a bit of a walk to the ticket office (inside the museum) once you are at the hotel. Easy walk into town/ restaurants. Room is basic but super clean,mini fridge, kettle provided and outdoor seating. All set in lovely garden.
